In this day and age of texting and lower case web addresses, it may appear to some that capitalisation is just not important anymore.

However, I stumbled across this definition of capitalisation in a forum. Some of you may have heard it before, but I have not and thought it rather witty.

I'm not as into politics & news as you are Nick but am with you on this one. To have at least a secondary command of your own language & grammar is a basic skill & i don't like the way the internet does'nt seem to recognise upper & lower case.
   What does this teach the youth of today? Can they compose a job application letter? Even i managed an old fashioned 'O' level lang & my use of apostrophes is questionable.

I'm a firm believer that email addresses and domain names should be 7-bit ASCII and only lower case; anything else leaves far too much room for fraud and impersonation in my opinion (so I'm very much against the fact they've opened DNS up to UTF-8 domain names, but that's another matter.)

But I really don't thing people typing 'www.hotgirlsareherelooknow.com' has anything to do with the fact that people no longer write proper English; I think you can blame laziness, lack of strict educational standards and text messaging for that..

A young apprentice at work was trying to compose an email to another company asking for literature. It was bloody hopeless, no idea of Dear Sir/Yours faithfully etc and it's a good job there's such thing as smell chequer two!

What gets me is the number of times you'll get a CV in that the author clearly hasn't proof read, or even spell checked! It boggles the mind. No I won't hire you and pay you £45k a year if you can't spell basic words in English, now break off back to whence you came!

You know you're all turning me into a grumpy old man, right?

P.S. I think I remember getting an A in English, but it still took me till I was 30 to figure out when you're supposed to use a semi-colon!

I very nearly used one that would have worked - I had to be careful not to, otherwise I suspected I'd be getting a knuckle rapping from an admin

It definitely didn't take till I was 30 for me to figure out how to use my dangling modifier...
