Some of the old models had a certain charm.......I'm thinking of the BMW 2002tii.....from the early seventies.

BMW make some excellent cars ....but the new models are too footballers/WAG's....for me...

Nice motor.

My 2 favs were the odd ball M1 and the 72 3.0 CSi they went like stink

Current BMWs (and MINIs) are poorly made, with a very limited budget.  They are neither particularly reliable or cheap to run.  The last of the good BMWs are now 20yrs old.

BMW lost their prestige in there business plan to become mass market.

The X3 and X5 are utterly hopeless for anything more than the school run, and only get the 4.8 v8 -  everything else is underpowered. Even a 170,000m (admittedly chipped) 3.0l auto Omega shows a 4.8 X5 a clean set of heels. Apparently, as neither me nor my brother would try such a thing on public roads ::)

Beemers have got a bad name as many of them today are driven by utter cocks who'se journey is more important than every one elses & have blown indicator fuses. I don't know much about the older 2002ti's suffice to say they're good. Most of the new ones are pig ugly...why is that? New designer? & yes X5's 3's are ridiculous. I've only owned two mid aged Bmw's. The first was a G reg. 318i touring auto which was great except for the autobox which kicked down too late & when it finally did changed up to early. They were all like that you just had to "manual it" if you needed to. The other one was the manual 328i coupe i took to one of the Chester meets. Better bottom end snap acceleration than a 3.0 Mig but less top end. Also a Mig will warn you when it's about to let go on a bend...the 328i won't it just goes & you can get it back but you gotta be quick about it as i found out in the dry.
Still good cars though. Both had been round the clock & i went up & down the country in both of them without a hiccup.

My brother had a G reg 525, superb car. That must have done 300k+.  Bit disappointing on performance, but true BMW qualities.  Last decent beemer he had (and he is like those gay prats who will only buy Sony TVs (he does that as well ;D), and only buys BMW or MINI).  He has had several beemers since, they have more toys now, and more performance (well, his Alpina and his 540 did have), but have lost something in the process, beyond just reliability and build.

My Mum still has her K reg 318iS, despite the BMW Dealer's attempts to break it several times.  Apart from the scumbag dealer's made up faults, its been a reliable little runner, despite failing its first every MOT miserably ;D.   This was the car were, imho, things all started to go wrong for BMW.

I educated Miss Vamps on the antics of BMW and Volvo drivers after a 4x4 Volvo came up behind me. >:(   I was overtaking a line of traffic in an line of traffic  on the A1 in poor weather he came up behind tailgating and flashing his lights, when we moved over he passed, Miss Vamps wanted me to chase after him flashing my lights..........some things change when you get older.... ::) ::) ::)

She reminded my that one of our friends has a BMW so I changed 'All' for 'Most'....... :D :D :D

if money was no object....you'd buy a diesel? petroleum fuelled M5 surely Tunnie?  ;)

Money no object humm? Then it goes to silly cars! If i win the lottery then yes an M5 please!

But if i just have a few quid to spend, my ideal next car would be either 535d Sport, Monaro VXR if my millage is low or Audi A8 3.0d

I doubt you would have to worry too much about the mileage on that great beast! as long as it's well maintained.

I refer to this every now and again and do so once more for Opti.

This 2002Tii was my second car (first was a 1602) after passing my test.

It was a great little car.

Mate of mine has a nice 2002. And he told me last week that he's added a 635CSi to the collection. :-* Must pay him a visit.

.. any more modern BMW does nothing for me though.

BMW 3.0 CSL or "Batmobile" as it was dubbed due to its enormous rear wing (which doesn't seem to be working in this pic at the Nurburgring - epic race car  :y

The 3.0CSL/CSi were very pretty, when I were a lad and it were all fields round here a friend's father had one in that light metallic blue which showed off all the chrome.  He absolutely pampered that car, parked it in the middle of a double garage as I recall so nothing else could get in!

But for me there was one big coupe that was just too beautiful for words.
