When typing the OOF address in the address bar, the primary page you get directed to is the forum index page

I noticed earlier that there was 19 guests online and also on 12th jan there were 62 guests, and although some may have been regular members who might not have been logged in, many would have been completely unregistered

I'm thinking that instead of being directed to the forum index, maybe it should be directing to a brief information page about the site with a single link button that would take you to the forum index, the information page takin some of the points from the "Omega Owners Site Guide" in the newbie forum

for example a guest enters the address in and gets sent to a page that encourages them to join, telling them that the FREE forum is filled with a load of friendly omega drivers/enthusiasts offering loads of help and money saving tips

BEHOLD... THIS IS MY VISION!:
WELCOME TO OMEGAOWNERS.COM, GOT AN OMEGA? THINKING ABOUT BUYING ONE? REGISTER YOURSELF ON THIS FREE SITE WILL TELL YOU ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW, AND EVERYTHING YOU DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THE OMEGA RANGE FROM THE GOOD OLD OPEL OMEGA (VAUXHALL CARLTON) THROUGH THE ENTIRE RANGES OVER THE YEARS TO THE LATEST OMEGA UP UNTIL ITS PRODUCTION, AND ALSO THE FOURTHCOMING 2008 MODEL OMEGA WE'RE ALL HOPING FOR! NOT TO MENTION A FEW OTHER MODELS THROWN IN! OVER 95% OF OUR MEMBERS HAVE DRIVEN, OWNED, OR DO OWN AT LEAST ONE OMEGA AND IN A SITE FILLED WITH ALL THE HELP FROM THE MEMBERS, MONEY SAVING TIPS, GUIDES AND LINKS, WE'RE SURE YOUR EVERY QUESTION WILL BE ANSWERED TO ITS FULLEST

note: we will not use your details to send you junk mail!!

you see? Chuck a few pictures in and a link to the site index and BANG!! 30,000 members before xmas!

Most of the landing pages for new visitors isn't necessarily the index page - most find us through searches, and land on a thread.

Although, plans afoot to make some changes  :-X

Also, remember, many of those guests may not be real people - Google alone downloads 1.5Gb per month from us ;)

Also, NTL in particular have crappy transparent proxies, and these frequently play up big time, like the 62 guests incident ;)

Currently, anyone you does land at the root page, we want to end up at the forum instead, without having to do another click (remember, each click counts for new members).  This will obviously change at some point when we expand beyond just a forum....
