GUTTED
« on: 13 May 2007, 19:04:05 »

Gutted, gutted, gutted :'( :'( :'( Some of you will know I picked up my 53 elite yesterday, picked it up at 11.00, took it for a drive, about 60 miles, did not floor it, drove it sensibly.
Temp guage went off the scale, started running like a bag of S*"t. Stopped on the side of the road and rang the garage I bought it off.
Bloke was to nice, could sense something strange about his response, no questions asked, he sent his recovery lorry to bring me back to his garage.
TURNS OUT the head gasket had gone and guess what, it will be the second time its been done????? :o :o How come for a 36,000 mile car
The feller never quibbled when I asked for my money back.
Something strange

36k v6? Naaaah. Not head gasket. Poor workmansip in another area probably, but CHG won't go at 36k.

Something they were trying to hide, that didn't last a day!

never mind. At least you got your dosh back.

Bad luck mate, but I would be counting my blessings. It could well have happened three months down the line and the dealer may not have been so accomodating then.

Keep looking and you'll find another.

Thats what i was thinking.....as it seems quite a few sellers on ebay.....get told by garages its the head gasket....when all the evidence points to oil cooler.

I know its not a nice thing to happen when you just bought a new car and getting money back was a  result but obviously not what you really wanted.....you wanted a nice working elite.

I might have been tempted to say i'll keep the car as is if you give me £2k back.....garage would probably be losing on the deal but might have said ok just to get it off their hands  :-/

If it is oil cooler, you could have fixed it for less than £200.....and got a nice bargain  :y

never a truer word said.

Bought the current vectra 02 v6 from a guy who panicked and took it to a garage.

Garage diagnosis Head(s) gone and parts and (high street dealer) labour would be circa £2000 including oil cooler, head kits, skimming, radiator etc etc. He didnt have £2k so sold it for what he could.

Result i picked up a £1k ebay car on a gamble admittedly, spent about £200 and have a car  - now running -that will sell for £4k.

Was this the Elite that was going for 9k?

As said, I would wrestle a substantial discount off the garage and keep the car, 53 Elites are rare and with 36k even more so...

Anyway, all's well that ends well  :y

its a damn good job you got your money back

it's just not on that garages can sell cars knowing there's serious stuff wrong with them

see whether or not they attempt to sell it again, and at what price!
