The new Cortina.
« on: 06 November 2010, 19:31:50 »

I'm actually keeping this one. It's just an old estate but it drives better than any i used to abuse in my teens. It's had a negative earth/alternator conversion, front discs & is unbelievingly smooth & quiet to drive. I think being an estate it's never been a repmobile, the boy racers did'nt want it so it's survived.
Not everyones cup of tea i know but i'm a Cortina man through & through, they're an English icon & i adore them!!! 8-)

That is a really lovely example Guy! :y :y :y :y :y

Not sure about the estate version not being repmobiles though.  In the retail trade it was the estate that became a favourite amongst field staff, especially the Mk2's to Mk5's so it could have been used on business ;) ;)

I guess some estates did rep service but most were saloons. I think this was a lucky one & bought new as a family car. It shows 78k & the diff does'nt whine!!! I bought the Lotus gearknob as the original was marble sized...tiny! The door bottoms need a look & the finish on the roof is'nt up to scratch so we're going to paint the lot in the spring, ame colour with an old english white side stripe & a Lotus badge on each rear panel just to match the wooden steering wheel i hav'nt bought yet. I've got some chrome headlight "eyebrows" ready, looking for a badge bar for the front bumper, a screen visor, apair of period spot lamps with the blue bit in the middle & a set of Lotus 5.5j' steelies & chrome inserts. 8-)

Looks a great project Guy :y I'm probably "teaching me grandma to suck eggs" but check out the rear wheel arch inner chassis members for metal mice when I worked in re finishing I saw a good few that needed plating and welding.

No worries Tony. I've been contacted by another Cortina owner warning me the sills may be bodged & it's got fibreglass wings, he owns 2 cars with nearly the same reg! MOT sept 11. If it needs sills or rear inners done we'll do it then buy a shultz adapter. I'll know it's been done properly then with seam welds. Dagenham dustbins are why i'll never be rich..........Old Fords never die!!! 8-)
