Thought I'd give you guys an update! Had a reasonable night's sleep (for me!) and, although I'm stil in pain, it feels more manageable! Still haven't actually got up yet though :-/ ::) ;)
Everyone is different, but I tend to lay out on the floor when my back is bad.  Partly because I can't move (as the floor isn't that comfy), but mostly I does tend to help mine.

I refrain from pain killers:
a) medication is for poofs
b) last time I popped a couple (when I fell off the bike), I was in a strange, pleasant yet strange, world ;D

Ahhh, that explains it, that must have been when I visited, Jaime. ::) ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D

I also suffer from back trouble and have done for a fair number of years.  I generally avoid painkillers as, like a number of others, I would rather know what movement is painfull (and thus, counterproductive to healing) rather than mask the feeling and probably do further damage by wrong movement.
Exactly, my friend, exactly...

Medical opinion is always preferred, I would say, just in case there is some serious underlying condition rather than just a pulled muscle or general discomfort.
Highlander, you're a pussy :P

Everyone is different, especially as regards getting a comfortable position, but trial and error....   :y
I am currently laying in a red hot bath trying to sooth mine, which isn't brilliant since yesterday.  Hot baths and car seat heaters help me no end, but everyone is different :y

I tell you, when the buggers wore off (in the middle of the night), I was in so much pain I went to be sick...  ...didn't make it to the bathroom, I passed out on the way.  Thats what I call pain ;)

I actually did more facial damage in the passing out than I did in the motorbike accident :o

Yep, bath and seat heaters have worked wonders for me too. I'm OK when in a position (generally) but getting from one to another can be a tad uncomfortable ::)

Been out for a gentle stroll today as SWMBO wanted to do some shopping. There is definitely some improvement, although still rather uncomfortable. Can't fetch in the fire wood and struggling to do anything other than gentle movements.

Tens machine is working wonders though, better than any painkillers!

Depends on your dr's view.....years ago it used to be the norm to lie about to aid back recovery......now with peeps getting DVT's for not moving about....dr's tend to prescribe painkillers and tell you to keep moving about....Last time i had a bad problem....my dr precribed me a box of 100 industrial strength co-codamol (i carnt take aspirin, im allergic to them) and told me to keep doing as i would normally. He also claimed i couldnt damage my back further  :-/

Got it sorted with a few visits to an osteopath  :y

Tho if you plan on going to a physio or osteo......you need to go soon, because if it is a slipped disc.....the longer you leave it.....its harder for them to put back it....and more painful for you  ;)

Pain killers and tens machine are the way for me too.

I get spasms in lower back right side, tens snaps the muscles out of the spasm, eventually, for me. But expect some seriously painful twinges that subside with time to a constant dull ache. So don't carry anything,ESP not valuable (or heavy obviosly) for a while after.

Gp ime is a complete waist of time when it comes to structural stuff, and physio or Chyro are usually too booked unto be a first response.

By the time an appointment is sorted recovery is under way. But there will be something pressing on a nerve somewhere so go see em.  :'(

In my case any form of treatment is hopeless until the muscles can be made to relax, which takes time for you to trust it not go go terWANG again. Rest, painkillers and tens, make an appointment asap for a couple of days time to get it manipulated when the pain is bearable....ime anyway.

Best of luck.  :-*
