a novel way of getting through snow

I was brousing after watching Lizzie's train snow clearance and came across this :

The Fordson Snow machine. It looks great fun would probably suit farmers with hills very well.

If you look there is remote control toys with similar concepts off the link given, they travel on water too  :y

archimedes screw based technology, sure they used one of those to cross ice/sea in Antarctica?
