You need a Spaniel.

But I may be slightly biased!  ;D

No.... for a family pet you need a daft Lab...... :y

Lab's make great pets...  very affectionate and loving, fairly docile and cute...

Indoors ours is happy lying in his bed or lying at the foot of the stairs...

We rescued ours at 5 1/2 years old, sadly, he was never properly socialised and as such isn't good with other dogs.  This was exaserbated by him being attacked by another dog shortly after we had him...

If you get a male dog, get it done, it will improve its temprement...

Yes they need a boss but that "Boss" must have alot of time for them. Loving & loyal but one of the worst for being left alone. :y

Which is a problem as we both work 9-5, I know this seems cruel but it's the harsh realities of working. Any suggestions as to which breed/cross would be better suited to cope with this?

Would you not be better holding off getting a dog in that case Ome? - just an observation, nothing judgemental. :y

No offence taken and I understand your point, I have had dogs before that were fine on their own and to be honest the extra security would be a bonus but I don't want to wait until im 65 to get another dog Hmmmmm! will give it some more thought!

well we got two!!! and they kept each other company, had thier toybox full of toys while we were at work, and never had an issue with chewing or damage, even when the third one came along they all keep eachother company and dont get lonely while we are out,,
food for thought? :y
