I bet Ecclestone's now regretting his remarks about the attempted attack on Jensen Button at Sao Paolo.

Strangely, Ecclestone then appeared to have a dig at Button, who, along with his trainer Mike Collier, had been wearing McLaren kit in the car, although the Mercedes had tinted, bullet-proof windows.

“I think they look for victims who are not too bright,” Ecclestone said. “All the people who have been robbed seem to be people outside the top 10 of the grid. Maybe that’s what they target, I don’t know.”

It would hold a degree more resonance however if he were moving about without being lifted and laid by various flunkies - as you rightly state.

There is another consideration all the same, the apparent trivialisation of this robbery negates the seriousness of it and perhaps reinforces the notion of 'sod it, they don’t mind and can afford it' in the minds of potential perpetrators.
