Yes, sorry about that, but I do feel better now.  :)

Seriously considering iPhone 4, even with 6months to go on my current contract....

Although having an iPad, it does just work, fair enough, flash aside of course. But it leaves me a little ..... empty. It's a bit shallow, doesn't multi task still, not properly. Symbian did that 10years ago. So might look into the n8 is it? Albeit warily.

But as it stands it has to be crapple ATM.  :-/

Pretty certain the gayPad doesn't multitask (or has only just started with very latest update).

I got my gayPhone before multitasking was available. I thought I would miss mutlitasking, but I don't (though I do have limited multitasking now).  Coming from years with WinCE devices, the current multitasking is not great.

I have a gayPhone for very specific reasons, but I would have to say, its is stupendously stable, and very robust - everything just 'works' and does so intuitively.  This is where Symbian, mamo, Android and Windows up to 6.5 all fall down.

As to signal, my 3GS (supposedly the worse for signal, and too suffers from the death grip (though the media have chosen to not mention that)) is on a par with other smartphones for signal, and possibly a shade worse than an old fashioned Nokia, like the 6230i

Would I recommend a gayPhone? Depends. For a girl, yes, without hesitation. For a ladyboy, yes. For a geek, no - Android or Win. For a geek fed up with unreliability of other options, yes  <<< I guess I fit in this category  :-[

You mention you want something that is reliable and reactive screen? iPhone all the way, ultra stable, joy to use. Ignore the hype about signal....

Ive done the rounds, SPV m3000 powered windows phone, HTC Magic running Android; iPhone wins hands down.

Mate has HTC Wildfire, it's utter shite. Battery life is appalling, screen resolution is pants too

I've got the Wave at the moment (able to trial it for a couple of days)..

Screen is awesome, very clear and responsive, nice auto tip, I expect most phones of this catageory and size have poor battery life...

I had already got a preconception about the resolution of the Wildfire screen being poor which swung my decision...

if you close gps services (all 4 of them, battery life will deffo change.. as I said earlier, with 3g on I use 1 week generally (rarely using internet on it) , nowadays I activate 3g only when needed and I can use 9-10 days approx..

ps: I close it when going to bed..

The main reason we both ended up with iPhone 4's was because I bullied the provider until we got them for free ;) ;) 8-) 8-) :y :y

I've already bullied the provider to get the deal I have, but, I am going to be bullying them a little more yet...

I have Vodafone nagging me constantly offering me a deal beater, which I would consider, except, I don't take the hard sell...  That said, it gives me a good firing point to get the deal I really want...

If the n8 does not have a customisable menu/home screen the I'll be very surprised. Symbian had that years ago and they're on what ,the third generation now?

And btw, multi tasking is fantastic on the n900 (maemo) you can have looooads of stuff open and it all just runs and works and can be seen doing so when all the windows are minimised. Cut and paste from text to email to phone book etc, all fine with browser camera and video open, if needed. I'll refer to previos comments on the rest of the phone though.... :-X shame.

But does the op want a smart phone at all :-?

To a point, yes, I want a smart phone, but, its essential purpose is to make calls with....  Only occasional internet access...

For only occasional internet access you don't need a smart phone (as such)... My n73 was superb for occasional access ::) :y

If I were after a phone (as opposed to a media device) I would be looking at the more basic Nokia's and Sony Ericssons. If you want email, internet and all the other stuff that goes with it, the iPhone 4 is the most stable device IMO. It is hyper stable, works and does what it's meant to! And if you're concerned about signal strength... It's better than my Nokia e71 was ;) ;)
