That`s why it`s called rubbish collection.........
« on: 09 December 2010, 15:54:21 »

It`s been five weeks now, without any bin collections hereabouts.......even the houses on completely clear and well-gritted roads.

When I telephoned the County dept., I was told that there will be no waste collections for the "foreseeable future": yes it`s health and safety again.......
"Council employees will not be asked to work on surfaces that might 'possibly' be (or are likely to become) slippery"

Does that mean that the entire county-council staff are sent home when`er the weather turns a bit 'iffy'? >:(

....irrespective of the slipperyness of 'surfaces', I bet it doesn`t slow the same people down in the slightest when going to the shops/pub or nipping to the take-away tonight. :D

IMHO: dubious H & S 'concerns' are one of the worst things ever to happen to this country! :'(

H&S rules  in my opinion are created for the weak and feeble and with any excuse to get out of a days work.

Ah but look on the bright side. IF your bad weather ever ends, think how big your cheque will be from the Council as a refund for services not rendered. ;D ;D

There is a formula that the council have for waste disposal charges which you can get refunded but its only pounds  not hundreds.
Also all councils are legal obliged to collect you waste once a week by law if they miss a pick up you just leave any excess waste beside your bin in black sacks the council HAVE to lift it.
Or you get a contractor with a waste carriers licsence to remove your waste and you bill the council by the way off deducting the cost from your council tax.
The only snag is you have to wright to your council stating that your not happy with the waste not being collected and give them 14 days to either reply to your letter or uplift the waste. After day 14 contact them again this time give them 5 days to collect the waste then after that you inform them in writing that you have got a contractor in and you will deduct the costs from you council tax.

we've not had a collection since the snow started - that H & S argument wont wash as what they're saying is they will never do any work in sub zero temperatures?

well i've been putting regular rubbish in the recycle bin for somewhere to put it, but i doubt we'll see more than a handful of days above zero this month or the next, or february for that matter so what do you do with 3 or 4 months worth?  ;D

They`d probably wonder what the heck I survived on!.....
The bonfire/wood-stove usually has anything that burns and I already compost most everything possible!......so, it`d just be the 'other stuff' for Tony and Phil to marvel upon.;)

While I was on my lightning visit to the Uk I had the "pleasure" of visiting the council tip about ten times in Leicester. I was greeted by a person each time. "what you got mate? Quick look in the back--- plastics over there, polystyrene in that bin, wood over there, metal in that, small electric appliances etc etc.

Course that doesn't help when you get out the old ironing board with cloth, metal etc on it.

The fact that it was wet mud underfoot didn't help  that the place was heaving!

In defence of those doughty personnel of whatever local council cleansing department we care to consider, they do have some very difficult things to deal with.......
