It`s been five weeks now, without any bin collections hereabouts.......even the houses on completely clear and well-gritted roads.

When I telephoned the County dept., I was told that there will be no waste collections for the "foreseeable future": yes it`s health and safety again.......
"Council employees will not be asked to work on surfaces that might 'possibly' be (or are likely to become) slippery"

Does that mean that the entire county-council staff are sent home when`er the weather turns a bit 'iffy'? >:(

....irrespective of the slipperyness of 'surfaces', I bet it doesn`t slow the same people down in the slightest when going to the shops/pub or nipping to the take-away tonight. :D

IMHO: dubious H & S 'concerns' are one of the worst things ever to happen to this country! :'(
:-? each council must be different, ours(Newcastle) sent a digger round the estate to clear a path for both the normal bin and recycling bin collections , our usual day is tuesday -early am ,sure enough, both were on time as usual ,despite the roads still being bad and the paths thick with snow, goes to show what can be done with a bit of effort! Have to say though,i was suprised when they made it through, conditions were very bad

It's insidious.....but very real.....I wonder where health and safety will be fifty years from now?

Why do we live in such a risk averse society these days ? :'( :-* :-*....(not me ....other people.. :P :P)
Fear of litigation for which we can blame our colonial friends in the US where attorneys thrive on civil actions

Perhaps we should insist that the Americans  return the English Colonies to their rightful owners....PF..... :P :P .....litigious bas**rds ;D ;D ;D
Yup - native Americans had a lousy immigration policy!

i called the council before i left work, fair play to them they've been sending trucks out as normal and are disregarding what week it is for what bin - ie put everything out and we'll take it - its just with 3-4' of snow on the pavement (2' fall plus the stuff ploughed off the main road) and no where to clear it to i assumed they wouldnt be running and wasnt putting bins out  :-[

Our Household waste bin & recycled stuff has all been removed  albeit 2 days late. Mind you, we all had to play a game of hunt the right recycling bag afterwards as the dipsticks just threw them anywhere from the back of the wagon! >:(

I am lucky, as I live in a small block of flats and we put our rubbish down a chute for the property management to deal with! ;) ;)

All recyclable material goes to the Sainsbury's car park re-cycling facilities ;D ;D

Sorted!! :y :y
