Can you put this rapeseed oil straight in the tank? Can you use it with turbodiesels?

I use a commercially available viscosity-modifier which also adds lubricity; so I simply mix it in a 20 litre jerry can before fueling the Discovery (which is a turbo-diesel)......but lieu of the additive, you can simply use  a mix of 50/50 veggie-oil and DERV. (simply mixed in the vehicle`s tank).

The caveat is: the engine`s diesel pump HAS to be suitable for SVO/PPO (pure plant/veggie oil or mixes thereof).....some cannot use ANY veggie proportions, others are fine at 50/50 ratios....some can go 100% veggie....You MUST check the type of metering pump and it`s suitability first.

There`s lots on t`internet about  veggie/bio fuelling....but, do research before trying anything; there could be expensive consequences if the engine and it`s fuel system are not suitable.:y

debs how much does all the equipment needed cost

Because I live in a very cold mountain area; I bought a coolant-heated fuel filter housing to ensure the veggie is kept as thin as possible, it came from a Peugeot diesel estate car (in the scrapyard) £5..... and a couple of pounds for some jubilee clips and heater-hose......a 20 litre (metal) jerry can £10....and the viscosity/lubricity additive £11./litre (of which; 1 litre treats 500 litres of veggie-oil)
...not exactly an expensive conversion! ;)

Far-less visible-soot (particulates); even uphill when 'lugging'......I think I`m getting ever-so slightly more MPG on veggie and there is a VERY obvious 'frying' odour to the exhaust; not in a bad way, but very different from the aroma of DERV......To be honest, I`ve never liked the small of burnt DERV; and veggie has a more pleasant/lighter smell to it.

Common Rail diesels are a universal 'no-no' for use with veggie...so, it tends to the the 'old technology' metered-pump DI engines that make for the best miser-option. :y
