Wow - I know how those drivers must have felt, I hate coming down hills with snow and ice on the road as it takes less than you think to lock all the wheels up, the point you wish you had gone the long way round lol.

various drivers just sat with their foot hard on the brakes with the wheels locked up with no effort at at to try let wheels turn & steer the car.  :-? :-?

Yep. Was going to say, very few examples of anything other than sit with foot hard on brake / accelerator and wait for the bang.

Conditions might have been too bad to rescue the situation, of course, but I'd be trying everything.
