Stopping smoking
« on: 29 December 2010, 22:05:53 »

Ok people, the time has come for me to pack up as I can no longer afford it. Plus the wife hasnt had a fag for just under two wks now and we always said we would need to pack it up together but this daft old sod is still puffing away ( outside  wont smoke inside the house now) and feels that he is letting her down by doing so.

So what tips can you give me ????????? as im not sure the patches/ gum will work for me

A bit unconventional, but SWMBO gave up after many, many attempts using a nasal spray which gives you a hit whenever you crave. Stings a bit at first but made it relatively easy for her. Trouble is, she's addicted to the spray now!

Better than smoking though, yuk

Best advice I can give is get down to your local surgery and ask to speak to the 'Stop Smoking Advisor'. You can discuss your quit plan and go for the best treatment for stopping.

I gave up just under 2 years ago with SWMBO, although I since restarted she hasn't but I don't smoke anywhere near to what I used to and can go a day or two without one. I'm due to see the SSA next week to start a new treatment to quit again :y

Oh and if you feel the need to munch once you've stopped try grapes, carrot sticks, anything but crisps and chocolate as you'll pile the pounds on and walk the dog a lot ;) :y

Gum worked for me, although it is to an extent addictive if you stay on it too long. I think the NRT products in general can help if you have already decided to give up, but they wont do the job for you. :y
You will be amazed though how much healthier and fitter you feel in the not too distant future. ;)

SWMBO got tablets form the quack, directions were to take the tablets once a day and continue to smoke as normal, until you actually want to stop, then just stop - she stopped smoking after 2 weeks on the tablets

I used to love a smoke, smoked approx. 40 rollups a day and couldnt imagine living without it. But in May 2000 I convinced myself that it was going to kill me sooner rather than later and when I had brainwashed myself sufficiently it suddenly became a lot easier than all my previous attempts.
I hate smoking now, I think its disgusting. ;D
