The downside of New Year
« on: 31 December 2010, 23:59:03 »

"An explosion has been reported outside a church in the north Egyptian city of Alexandria with unconfirmed reports of a number of casualties.

Several people were killed in the blast, an unnamed security official was quoted as saying by AFP news agency."

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-12101748

"An explosion at a bar near a barracks in Nigeria's capital has killed a number of people.

Nigeria's military chief said a bomb had been planted to target people celebrating New Year's Eve in Abuja but he did not say who was responsible."

My point, Guy, was that there are people who will use others' happiness to reap their darkness. Yes, I am personally content, for these things do not directly affect me. However, it shows that we should be forever vigilant against those who would exploit our weaknesses which, amongst others, is our belief that New Year and other celebrations should be universally left alone for peace and happiness. I feel for those who have lost loved ones in these attacks, and I cannot ignore those feelings. I am sorry if I offended you. I am personally happy, but increasingly wary.

Happy New Year to you and yours. :y

the reasons behind the violence in Egypt would be laughable if they werent so fatal - 2 catholic women convert to Islam because they are not allowed to divorce under their religion, the catholic church goes nuts and basically imprisons them, then Islamic extremists attack the church, angered at the treatment of the women presumably?

2 points -

1) i dont think you're average Al-Queda terrorist gives 2 figs what happens to women so thats bs - they'll use any excuse

2) the reasoning behind all of it is based on two slightly different fairytales that maybe if you had a lick of sense you'd stop believing them when you were 10

"god" help us if this kind of medieval pish is still prevalent in 2011 :(

maybe its just coincidence then?

"Al-Qa'ida in Iraq says it is carrying out the campaign of anti-Christian attacks in the name of two Egyptian Christian women who reportedly converted to Islam in order to get divorces from their husbands. The Coptic Church forbids almost all divorce, meaning leaving the religion is sometimes the only option to escape an abusive or unhappy marriage.

The two women have since been secluded with Coptic Church authorities. Islamic hard-liners in Egypt have held frequent protests in past months, accusing the Church of imprisoning the women and forcing them to renounce Islam and return to Christianity.

Al Qaida in Iraq says it is carrying out attacks on Christians in that country until Egyptian Church officials release the two women. The Church denies holding the women against their will.
"

from todays paper http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/africa/twentyone-dead-in-egypt-new-years-mass-bombing-2173587.html

Al queda in Egypt are surely galvanised by the actions of the Iraqi cells? cant be certain, true, but i'd say its a strong probability that it boils down to the silly hats/stupid laws/control freaks of the religious nutjobs on both sides........as usual  :o

As much as I despair of religious extremists, I despair equally of militant atheists.   ::) :(
