Ford open prison riot
« on: 02 January 2011, 10:21:34 »

I am surprised that there is no comment on the forum on this.

£2 million pounds worth of damage just because the prisoners weren't supposed to have alcohol. It is a prison and they are doing time. You don't get alcohol, takeaways, your own keys, mobiles and so on in a real prison.

It doesn't stop there. The overtime and costs with relocation of prisoners over the Festive period will no doubt be another £1 million. Then there will be the inevitable enquiry, that may well easily eclipse all the other costs put together knowing how we can milk an enquiry.

At least the five ring leaders may  be prosecuted under the prisons act. If it was down to me I would have them and the other 35 assistants rebuilding (at their own cost) the prison for the rest of their lives if need be.

The threat to the ringleaders is to serve their sentence at a more secure unit. Whoopy doo.

TheBoy for President! All prisoners are used by our armed forces, either to serve, or to be used as live target practice.

There's not much outrage in the country either V.

It suggests to me that people are becoming inured to violence (and destruction) and are inclined to seek the peaceful sanctity of the celebrity magazines, soap operas and anything else in any other medium that provides a distraction to reality.

2 prison officers + 4 support staff (whatever that is) and nearly 500 prisoners, and these were "normal" staffing levels - yes its an open prison, and theres an element of trust necessary to police it but it looks like one of those situations that theres no immediate back up if it all kicks off - could have been extremely dangerous for the staff  :o

I was watching "Death Race" (the remake, not the original) last night about the same time as I was reading this story .. doesn't seem like such a bad idea, to me..

I've rethought this.  Just let them put up tents and let them live in those for all time.

Forcing them to rebuild the prison/actually face repercussions of their actions would probably entitle them to compensation for 'infringing their civil liberties' apfu.
