Electric car- a week to drive from London
« on: 10 January 2011, 17:57:20 »

:o BBC breakfast news are following a driver taking an electric mini from London to Edinburgh,it's going to take them all week! best part is there are no charging stations between Newcastle and Edinburgh so it might not have enough range to even get there! even worse is he has been told only to use the heater in very short bursts to conserve the charge, still someway to go with this technology me thinks :-/

I really cannot understand them continuing to try and get electric cars workable, it just isnt going to happen no matter how long they try to sort it

A cold fusion generator MAY be the answer when they can make them small enough
but batteries? no chance

Go by horse, it will be far quicker! ::) ::) ::) ::)

What a load of nonsense it is.  Who are they trying to convince?  Until an electric car has the range of a petrol vehicle then they have no chance of becoming an everyday means of transport for us who do good mileages! ::) ::) ;)

Is the boot large enough to carry a diesel generator? ;D

For me, it's not the short range, it's how long it takes to charge. My bike has a range of under 200 miles, but I can stop & fill it anywhere within a few minutes. Even if the electric car had the same range, it's useless if ittakes you a couple of hours to 'fill it up' again.   :y

I'd have one at the moment if I could afford it, work is only a few miles away and my 2.6 V6 is getting more and more expensive as petrol goes up and up. It's a very niche market at the moment due to the level of technology, but it'll improve...

Electric (Battery) driven cars are still flawed, they will never replace the car as we know it.

Fuel Cell technology is where its at, but thats not going to advance until Oil becomes a real issue

Need a trolley bus or Scaletrix system.

Electric cars are too expensive and only 2 seat for the only one I actually like

When the tree huggers realise that Electric cars cause similar damage to the planet as petrol powered cars, the battery powered vehicle idea will be put on the scrap heap.

Electricity doesnt fall from the sky (well, it does, but incredibly difficult to harness).  ::)

With work only 12 miles away I could possibly be persuaded if someone wanted to give me a Tesla Roadster..

.. but I wouldn't buy one for myself! It might be quick (very! saw it go up the hillclimb at Goodwood) but it's so .. silent.

That pompous tw4t Quentin wilson was on the BBC news before xmas, giving the electric cars a thumbs up, but he then went on to say that the battery pack loses nearly 50% of its capacity in the cold & thats before you run the thing, he didnt mention anything about the heater sucking the juice from the battery either, I think they told him to shut up in his earpiece & reminded him that he`s been employed to push the BBC`s bias AGW message so dont give away the major pitfalls in "greenie mobiles". :o :o

hydrogen cells like Honda's Clarity are the answer but they're years from being affordable, reliable and efficient  :o

Technology and how its implemented, in whatever form, takes time to perfect and be utilised efficiently.  Think of the mobile phone.

Electric vehicles still have a "long way to go" if you excuse the pun, they are really only useful as a town runabout right now, driving one to Scotland was silly but  someone had to do it... ::)  then there is the "silent engine" issue - wouldn't fancy being run over by one and squashed under its batteries... :o they could supply a tape recording of an engine of one's choice! ;D

like in the 70's when Microwave ovens came in, they were never intended to replace conventional ovens but the hype and sales blurb convinced buyers otherwise with some hilarious results - ghostly white chickens with a tin of brown paint..?  ;D
