Absolute nonsense!! >:( >:( >:( >:(

If this country is going to produce the required world leading engineers, scientists, physicists, and general adventures, we need to get rid of stupid restrictions on our children's learning and activities like those that have reared their head in this ridiculous case!   >:( >:( >:(

What is the world coming to? When I was a lad the school decided that it would be a good idea if all the fifth form learned to ride a moped as sports mopeds where so popular at the time, so a honda camino shopping type moped was procurred from the local honda dealer, and we all had a go on the playground under the watchfull eye of the deputy head. All went well until one girl froze at the controls and rode straight into a brick wall at some considerable speed! Even though she had to go to hospital, nobody got bollocked, it was just one of those things :y Those were the days...

I personally am disgusted!

Whatever happened to teacher interaction, fun, and learning through activity??

Of course, he should have submitted his intention to go sledging in the snow in triplicate, supplied face masks, helmets, knee and elbow protectors, and armoured jackets like ALL the kids who go sledging on tin trays and wooden sleighs wear, and done risk assessments and method statements just like we ALL do when we let our kids go out in the snow, right??

Obviously just sacking him wasn't enough, surely we should shoot him at dawn to for putting our children through such a terrible ordeal??

When I was 10 i was involved in an accident leaving me with a 14" scar accross my head.

1st day back I was whacked with a football opening  the front part of the operation.

Later that year a lad was knocked out cold with a cork cricket ball on the playing filed.

1st year at high school I ended up at the bottom of a rugby scrum and the head was split open again.

2nd year a teacher was nearly speared with a javalin because he thought the youth would not get with in ten feet of him never mind a few metres past him.

School sports events I was given a large archery bow and arrows that where too short which ended up with an arrow throgh the skin between thumb and index finger.

The list goes.

Where was H&S in those days.

Nobody died or got seriously injured.

isnt this exactly the kind of petty, idiotic, risk averse thinking that the government said they'd bring an end to? ridiculous  :o

I don't blame the school at all - or the government, really.

The problem is that if little billy breaks a fingernail, the parents are poised ready to sue for damages for all the mental anguish and future loss of earnings. Because of that, the school has to be insured and have 'watertight' H&S policies so they can get away with the bare minimum and/or have their insurance cover any losses. :-/

Now.. if we could somehow stop people for suing each other for accidents..

i say anyone trying to sue the school should have to face a 12 person jury made of ordinary tax-payers who can vote on 3 decisions..either:

a) don't be so 'kin stupid
b) go ahead, sue the school
c) give your stupid kid a slap, then see a)

surely its not that difficult  ;D :y

It is stupid and idiotic, and Banjax you would be correct they are a local Labour councillor. To be honest the area in which the school is in sledging is the least of their worries

I visited the school's website and discovered that the chair of governors appears to be (although I can't be 100% sure, but the names match), a local Labour councillor. ::)  ;)

i dont know who's decision it would be - but its a stupid one.

it is probably a "new" labour do-gooder to be fair tho  :y
