The reason i bought my Elite.
« on: 17 May 2007, 16:28:57 »

If you havent noticed the main reason i bought mine was to tow my track car around.
So here is a few pics of my old girl and her new mate.
Hope you enjoy.

(Great what you can chuck in the back of a brand new civic diesal)

In his new home.

For some reason my mate thought it would be best to fit the cage by taking the engine out first.

and in true stick style as if by magic half hr later it was out.

Then put back to bed with his p/jays on.

Never did get the cage fitted but already for my Dad to seam weld asap.
First of got the seats out to fit the cage then ben was shocked at how much leg room you can get in a nova.

First of for today a game of spot the differance.

Also fitted these today.

Wile ben had fun with a wire wheel.(Cheers mate)

Then got on with fitting the passenger foot rest.

Bens handy work all ready for my Dad to weld up.

First on the list today was to finish the prep work in the engine bay ready for me Dad to weld on sunday yay.
Had a poke around and found only 1 little hole in the engine bay by the passenger side turet.

Not bad for a 17year old car.

Wilst there i was told to have a poke around to see if there was any other bits that mite need doing.

So i started in the usual place on a nova.  Thats right the boot floor.

It looked fine to me.

So thought i best have a little tap around with me hammer as usual but still nothing. So just to be on the safe side thought i would look into it a bit closer this time with me angle grinder ........

Woopssssss

I hope my dad can weld across this lol.

First of sorted the big hole i found in the boot floor.

Wile dad got on with the seams.(Thanks Dad)

Then nocked up some thing to put the rad against.

Once all done i got on with painting it all ready for the engine to go in over the next week sweet.

Its in yah.

Back on the deck and lower at the front now. Must sort that out.

Once back on the floor i did what lee has done and removed a head light thats right with the hammer.

Nice job... you took off the OHC engine and planted a 16v DOHC instead...  :y

Nice work Ernie!!

I'm looking for some Track action at the moment.

I picked up a Calibra yesterday, (seemed like a good idea at the time!), and I'll be picking up a Monza tomorrow. I haven't quite decided how to go about it yet, but I'm favouring the Monza.

I need to ask, when you say 'seam welded', does that mean every seam on the car, or is it selective ones?

It's just that it sounds like a never ending task to seam weld every single joint on the chassis of a car.

On the Nova there are a few joins around the engine bay you weld to accomodate teh extra torque of the bigger power plant and reduce twist a little......and you dont seem weld them (and the pics show this), you stitch weld them.

Interestingly, the slam panel on a Nova is a structural member.....and I'm not convinced that the replacement bar is going to give quite the same level of support and certianly not with a single vertical bolt....it wants a horizontal one to at least.

With all the weilding done to the engine bay it is stronger than it was in the first place.

I wouldnt of cut it out if it hadnt of been weilded.

it still has the bottom part which is well done and yes my typo error it's been stiched not seam and the rear of the shell is going to be done over next year as having to much fun at the mo.

Thanks for your coments and i would go for a monza over the calibra as there only good for there engines imho.

Looks like great fun, under normal circumstances I wouldn't go near a Nova but I'd make an exception there ;)

Personally I'd be tempted to try and get a suitable RWD car if it were me, but I guess there aren't many RWD cars around that are so small and light except proper sports cars which are obviously going to be a lot more expensive.
