I noticed the other day that one of the rear brake lights and a tail light on my wife`s P reg Corsa wasn`t working. I had a quick check and found both bulbs were blown. Ok, i thought, will pop out and change them for her and get a few brownie points into the bargain.

As the nearest car accessory shop was approx 4 miles away from us i thought i would try my local petrol stations. No luck there. It would be ok if i wanted bread, milk, newspaper, soft drink or even a coffee ( latte, expresso etc.) and a muffin but anything related to a car spare.... no chance. Ended up travelling 8 miles to the accessory shop to get two bulbs for £1-50. I know it isn`t practical to stock every spare needed for modern day cars, but i remember when local petrol stations stocked basic spares like bulbs, oil filters etc. Seems like today`s petrol stations are just mini supermarkets who just happen to sell petrol as well. As for the local garages.. well..i tried a couple and was told they didn`t have any but could "get a couple in" for me later on that day. As for the brownie points when i had finished changing the bulbs, i was told.. " you took your time. Did you have a problem? It was only a couple of bulbs "
