how many times did Gideon say "coldest December in 100 years" i counted 6 in a 3 minute spot on R5  8-)

I'm beginning to think I've overestimated Osborne - and I thought he was an idiot already  ;)

It is a well documented fact, that every time Labour win power they spend a lot of money the coun try doesnt have, run the economy into serious trouble, and the Tories get back in, take the tough decisions to rebalance the books and put things back on the straight and narrow. Then they become unpopular with stupid people, who think they have a right to be spoon fed and have their arses wiped by the state, so Labour get voted back in and the whole process begins again.
Democracy - its overrated. ::) ;D ;D

Anyone who thinks that Ed Balls is capable of bringing the British economy back to good health please say so/raise your hand/start a poll........... I would be fascinated to see if such a person exists outside of the politics desk of The Mirror. ::)

There are many well trained people all over this this nation about to retire - like me - who will be able to spare the time should the status quo ever need to be addressed.

No charge will be made - good of the nation and all that. ;D ;D :y

Sounds like a plan Uncle Z. :y
I should add that I think its possible that this Govt. could be the exception to the rule, with regard to putting the economy right. Im honestly not sure. But what I am utterly convinced of, is that Labour, would do a much much worse job of it than the Tories ever could. If they get hold of the purse strings again within a generation or two, it really will be a case of, " the last one to leave, turn out the lights".

What I struggle with is that there is any strong correlation between the cuts and tax increases that have happened and how that is having (a very poorly reported it has to be said) a major impact on manufacturing.

I know from past experience that within the manufacturing sector I came from that the last quarter of the fiscal year was always the worst.

I don't know Albs, the tories stated publicly they'd match what Labour were spending pound for pound, now they turn around and point at Labour and say - "its all their fault" seems like they're trying to have their cake and eat it if you ask me.

Labour had nothing to do with the global financial collapse - the reason we're hit so hard is because we're so reliant on the financial sector we're much more vulnerable than more diverse economies.

DC and Giddy-on seem to be getting away this this big lie which is irritating that people dont look at the evidence but are happy to be spoon-fed regurgitated press-packs. Labour got a lot of stuff horribly wrong, but the economy wasn't one of them - its just very easy to blame the other lot - i thought this Lib/Con alliance promised an end to blame game politics?  :o

Fact is, if Brown hadnt rescued Europe we'd be far worse off than even the disastrous scenario we're facing now  :(

Brown (abley assisted by Balls) all but wrecked the British economy.
The global crisis would have had a much smaller effect on this country if they hadnt created economic chaos before it hit.
He thought he could get away with it until his time in office was over but he was wrong, so he then resorted to telling blatant lies every time he opened his mouth. He promised that we would be the first major economy to come out of recession. We were in fact the last - and that was due to the fact that he had mismanaged the economy to a degree that was imo criminal.
If you believe he rescued Europe (or anything else ) you really are deluded.
He squandered the nations gold reserves, stole billions from our private pensions, introduced countless stealth taxes, which strangled the aspirations of industry and prudent individuals, had the tax revenues from the biggest boom the financial sector has ever had - and still he borrowed countless billions, and wasted every single penny of it. He didnt need to keep any in the piggy bank for a rainy day as he had personally abolished boom and bust (a criminal and cruel lie), he boasted to the city that he would never introduce regulations to ensure checks and balances for the security of the national economy - they were his best mates dont forget - and as soon as it started to go wrong he immediately pointed the finger at them and blamed them for ALL that went wrong and suddenly converted from evil Capitalism to a socialist Scottish Presbyterian. He should be in prison for what he and his starey eyed mate did to the finances of this country. >:(
As Markdtm implied - the media are atm making a big story out of nothing much. If it becomes a trend in the coming months then there is a problem, but so far, its nothing to get excited about.

The title of this thread should be changed to 'What happens when you let Labour rule for 12 years.......'

Exactly. :y............If it was my decision to decide what happens next, I would cut the welfare state by 50% by the end of this quarter. ;)
And start to ramp up interest rates to a sensible level immediately.

Another way of looking at it is that our economy is false, it's one huge bubble, based on, in part the spending power of welfarers, a huge inefficient public sector, and massive debt. All of which have been brought about by Gordon and Co.

I've just seen Ed Balls on the news complaining about the state of the economy!! How that man has got the nerve??!! As if any real changes can filter through since the coalition came to power. Trying to blame the coalition, he must think we're as daft as him. We'll be seeing the ill effects of Labours mess for years yet.

There is no way of avoiding high unemployment in the next few years. When you create an extra 750,000 jobs in an already overmanned public sector, it has to happen. But when it does the media will blame it on the Tories, the same as they always have done, and Labour may well be heading back into office at the next election. Quite possibly assisted by the Limpdems, who dont care who they whore themselves out to, as long as they can wield much more power than their share of the vote should entitle them to. :(
