be nicer to people
« on: 28 January 2011, 00:13:44 »

after the banter that went down with foxyv6 i think a new banner should be have understanding to other peoples feelings, i was suprised at the responses to this thread and whether she was at fault or not shouldn't come into it the accelerator had stuck and what happened after that is grey but the lady had had a traumatic experience and the wolves were out imo maybe we should think about peoples feelings before we post. :(

:y

As for the accelerator sticking, if there was more resistance due to fraying of the inner cable, a slightly harder press could easily have the engine 'screaming' away and the frayed cable would keep it there.
The 'hand on lever' theory could explain the involuntary gear change on impact.
End result is a totally baffled driver wondering what the heck happened.

I must have missed something! :o :o :o :o :o

It would seem that the usual male banter was evident in the case of a lady driver!! ::) ::) ::) ::)  No surprises if that was the case! :D :D :D ;)

On the contrary. I think foxyv6 presented such an extraordinary set of circumstances as the cause for the accident that those who responded wanted to understand (and help foxyv6 understand) what had happened.

Had she been in a frame of mind to do so, I believe it might have benefited her to consider the exact sequence of events again, TBH.

Kevin ...I would like to agree with your point of view :y .... i know i certainly never said anything nasty and there was nothing i saw apart from one post maybe that i thought was a bit "off".

@MRGREEN
I know i never once suggested she was a fault and stated i dont doubt her story and hoped she recovered quickly  >:( .
I was more concerned with a safety issue with a car that can apparently move forwards and backwards on its own whilst in PARK if that is the true series of events  :-/.
You cant tar everyone with the same brush  :-/ :-/

Right I have now found the relevant thread! 8-) 8-)

I see what you mean Kevin :y :y

As the thread is locked, I will just say here that I feel for Foxy, no matter what the circumstances of her accident.

It all rings bells for me, as my old mother had a similar experience.  She sat in a automatic hire car that had just been released to her at a garage, started the engine, she says put it in drive and before she knew it the engine revved high.  She apparently shot forward, hit the edge of a ramp and landed across the bonnets of "a few" cars  (4 I believe!!) before she knew it, wrecking all in her path plus the hire car!!

She never bothered to drive again poor old girl! :D :D :-X :-X :'( :'(

So weird things do happen!  What she did with the pedals your guess is as good as mine! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;) ;)

Sorry, but knowing my mum was not hurt made it a subject of great laughter within the family.  Needless to say the garage were not so amused!! :P :P :P :P :P

To my shame.... :-[
.......I must confess to having an uncharacteristically cynical-moment with my contribution to Foxy`s thread.

For some odd reason, I could not help feeling that the OP had been less than forthright....the subsequent posting of images of the unfortunate damage, did little to dissuade me of that belief.

We are a community and all are welcome; but people were/are genuinely concerned for her situation and 'truth will out'; even if (at times) it is uncomfortable.

I apologise to this forum if my contribution unfairly contributed to Foxy`s departure. :-[

To be fair, the forum is primarily geared to technical diagnosis and remedial action to get Omegas back on the road.  From time to time someone posts an emotional cry for help which is usually treated with great care and consideration.

Unfortunately the thread in question was not only posted when the poster was still in shock but it had a combination of technical and emotional content.  Usually the speedy technical response is appreciated (and that is the core of the forum :y).

I pass on my condolences to Foxy and hope she gets new wheels shortly.

There is absolutely nothing to apologise for Debs! ;)
Whether the poor lass's account was a bit awry because of the shock or whatever, as you say & a lot of us thought; the account as stated was at odds with the pictures shown. I don't think anyone was intentionally critical or 'pointing the finger' as it were, just a bit flummoxed. I imagine everyone was sympathetic to her plight, however caused, & wish her well :y It's just a shame she appears to have gone  :(

Nowt to apologise for anyone ....

She gave an "odd" account of what happened that did not "sit right" with many minds. This water was further "muddied" when she posted the pictures, and made nearly opaque when she "insisted" that not only did the car change gear at least twice on its own, but that the throttle also moved on its own !!!

Hardly surprising some were cynical/perplexed ...

That she then decided to throw Teddy ( and Loobdy-Loo) out of the cot was her choice, and no one elses..

Brings to mind the old adage .. "Act in Haste, Repent at Leisure"
