Cold Callers
« on: 31 January 2011, 13:37:39 »

Fing hate them.  Especially as I have a sign on the door saying no cold callers or circulars etc....

This one was from Brittish gas, offering £100 to come back to them, plus a cheaper rate.

1st question was who is my supplier - "Not saying"
2nd question was what is your current tarrif - "you tell me your best offer and I will see if it's worth it"

If you come back to us we will give you £100 - "but will you give me continuouse discounts each month" - Silence.

How much do you pay for your electric - "why?"

Well the £100 offer was based on dual fuel - "But you didnt say that, you said you were Brittish Gas and Gas was all you spoke about" - Sorry - "Bye Bye"

pretty sure it is now ILLEGAL for them to bother you if you have a notice at your front door

do some internet hunting just to be sure, in case i'm wrong and it might only be scotland at the moment, but i'm sure something was mentioned on watchdog/rogue traders late last year

if i'm right, get onto BG and write a big formal complaint, they'll be due a massive fine

I am surprised Skruntie that you allowed them to get that far! :o :o

As soon as I open the front door, and they say British Gas I say "no thank you!" and shut the door in their faces! :D :D :D ;)

found this:

"NEW "NO COLD CALLERS" RULE

The big six energy companies have agreed to a request by Consumer Focus and Trading Standards that their doorstep sales teams WON'T knock at any house with a clearly displayed "No Cold Callers" sign.

WHAT IF THEY KNOCK ANYWAY?

While it'll only be added to the EnergySure code of practice in October, the rule is already in place. If they break it, note their name and employee number and report them to the company. If that fails, follow up at

www.energy-ombudsman.org.uk"

They are a right pita round my way.  But i always tell them where to go a take them right out of the building and past the electric gates at the front of the block. They just wait for some one to walk in and catch the gate behind them. I got the hump with one who wouldnt leave when i told him to so i grab hold of him and marched him out and he phoned his boss and passed me the phone so i walked back to my flat with phone in hand locked the door behind me and sat down talking to his boss for about an hour. All the time he was banging on my door. I then just passed him his phone back with a flat battery. lol

Large gates solve the first problem - the second, of people using the telephone to punt their stuff, is also easliy solved by having an unlisted number and an answering machine. :y

I have a notice saying "Sales people-please  do not call".

I was sitting at the table the other day, I can see outside from there. I saw a young chap with an ID tag round his neck approach the door, read the notice and then knock. He glanced through the window and saw me and smiled at me. I smiled back. He knocked again and looked at me. I looked at him.

This went on for a few minutes until the thick b'stard realised that I wasn't going to open the door, then he huffed off. ;D

haha. I once missed a sky subscription by being .26p short in the bank one friday, then 11.30 one sunday morning the phone rang and it was sky (my phone rejets anonymous numbers, allthough this was not with held I didnt think and just picked it up)

The interesting thing is, it was'nt about a missed payment (or they came accross not trying to show it) but about offering me a discount, (how silly of me for thinking they had an ulteria motif)  Well I was peed off with the guy for interuping my WWE wrestling that I couldnt record on sky basic package.  So I set off moaning about the service as is my right as a custmoer.

We talked about repeats
the lack of of repeats on main channels like Sky 1 not having even a Plus1 hour.
Pixelization in bad weather.
Extended advertising times
Easters starting before it's set start.
No access via RJ45 or USB if I upgraded.
How the menu could not be sorted by channel name.....

the list went on and soon it was 1pm and I causually said to the called were these commision based calls, to which he replied yes.  Then I said "you cant hang up on a customer either can you" he replied that was correct.

End result was I wasted 90 mins of his time because he interupted the 1 TV program I actually like to watch on a sunday. :-/

and sod all has improved since.

I politely tell them i'm not interested and if they take no notice and persist they get the F off and I shut the door in their face. I then get grief off the wife for being so rude ;D

I revert to my training once they start gibberring on the doorstep.

Hold up my hand as though stopping traffic - they always stop talking - then close the door and lock it, all without saying a word.

Childish but Oh! So satisfying and not, I don't think, overly rude?   ;D
