Dont shoot me for asking this
« on: 22 May 2007, 16:47:26 »

I know, Iknow this is an Omega forum but, I need some info on my old Peugeot 405.

Its no good sending me off to the PUG forum because they are as much use as a chocolate fireplace on there, Thats when someone appears on there that is.

My bloody heater on the 405 will only work on full blast. Now apart from paying more for a new part to replace the old one at a cost that would exceed the cost of the car im after a solution to rectify this annoying fault.

How can i get the heater to work but not on full all the time. could i fit a rotary switch or any bloody switch and bypass the old one. This is doing my head in now but i do need some sort of heater at times without too much cost.

So if anyone is familier with this problem i would very much appreciate some info..

I could be wrong, but I thought I read on the Omega that it was something to do with the heater resistor switch thats mounted on the blower somewhere, if that is the case on the Omega, then its logical for it to also be the possible cause on your 405..

The book of lies for the 405 might help, and that part will probably be much cheaper than a new unit, or you might be able to grab one from a scrappie - this also depends on whether you have to remove the whole dash on the 405 to get to it..

If I'm right, and I'm sure I'll soon be corrected if not!, then I would check it out :y

Hi ClarCe

Yes i think your right, Ive read the 405 book of lies and thats what it is a common fault and probably a nightmare to change. Problem is with scrap yard is, if its a common thing how many will i try before i get a result.

I am thinking of pulling it apart once and trying to fit a switch of some kind that would give me some sort of blowers even if its slow. The noise is worst than Jilly Gooldens voice. ;D

Of course if i had a BOSE system in the old car i could listen to that. But who needs Bose.. ;D ;D

Seriously in the fine weather im ok but after its raining and you need to demist the screen with the blower on full i feel like smashing the bloody thing with a sledge hammer.. ;D

As previous reply, look in the book of lies and search out the electrical diagram. You will more than find that the heater blower goes through a dropper resistor network.

All this does is put in resistance to the voltage to the motor slowing the thing down.

You may find, and iam not quite sure on this but you may be able to get at the heater motor from underneath the scuttle (the piece of plastic covering the wiper motor and gubbings). You may be able then to get at this resistor and by pass the thing. Good luck working and owning  a French car can be so much fun :'( :'( :'(.

Hi Marks DTM
Is there any other way around this do you know.

£35 is not much but more than what i want to spend on this thing.

Only a second hand part would be an alternative as the chances are its a transistorised setup and not a simple motor.

Its mounted as part of the blower motor assembly behind the glove box, you need to remove the motor and its attached to this....from memory....
