I'm suprised already that the FIAT Multipla isnt number 1 most ugly car though. That thing is seriously horrid. It insults my eyes everytime I see one.

BMW lost their way in the mid nineties, and are currently surviving on their reputation.  In an attempt to keep their other businesses going, the car business had to slash production costs, and it shows now....

Additionally, they managed to attract the repmobile market, which will start to affect resale value.  Attracting this market is a short term solution if you value your brand.  And now, due to most 3 series being driven by junior reps, many non BMW drivers just think that BMW drivers are idiots (based on the junior reps inability to drive).

Alas, I come from a family of BMW owners, and a family who have worked for BMW directly, or as consultants, so have been in most metalwork they have made in last 15yrs.

But I agree, and have said here many times, it would be boring if we were all the same.

And no, I do not think the Omega is the best car made ;) - but I think it represents excellent value for money :)

imho.

Its the value for money that pursuaded me to get one!

it worked out as a straight swap for the corsa i had before it, a 1.0 club, x reg with 90k on and NO toys whatsoever!

agree with what you say, but be honest you dont see many reps in 7 series cars, yes they do serve a lot of businesses with their fleet cars, and this has probably dragged the model down, years ago you did not see many around, but the 7 series my old man purchased is in a class of its own, a super car and i would think one of the best in its class, he test drove the jags, mercs etc, but for him he found the BM 7 to be the far best.

For me, if the Omega was still a production car, i would think the 3.2 elite would stand well against the excutive models.

This is what general chat is all about i think, good old friedly debate. but lets not get into politics.

Opps, sorry, didn't mean to offend anyone, if I did, sorry.

However, I still say that by targeting the fleet market (with all series) is going to have a detrimental long term affect on the brand.  15yrs ago, owning a beemer meant something 'special'. It was not common. The build quality was still reasonable, and a pretty good drive as well.  Now, every other driveway on my street has a BMW on it, thus losing the 'uniqueness' of owning such a car, the 3 series has become the new XR3i.  The drive for normal* beemers is no better than comparable cars now.

The 7 series is a difficult one to compare, as not many similar cars in category. Jag is more aimed at 5 series market.  Jag not a brilliant car, but unique in that stubborn 'British' kind of way, despite being American owned. Merc are coming out of their bad era, but still work to do. Lexus again is more up against 5 series. Can't really think of other options.

But back to original comment, I still think the sytlist should be shot!

* Obviously the tweaked ones such as M series and Alpina aren't normal
