Whatever next???

WW2 1000lb bomb found in a garage in London?

(oh, sorry, that's already happened in the 50s, somebody dug up an apparently inert UXB and stored it in his rented garage to show to friends. It was later found to be LIVE, but without a timer...................)

You joke, but I remember a story of years ago when an labourer on a building site found a WW2 bomb, and then decided to lift it out of the ground and take it to the site office!!  If I remember correctly it was said that everyone in the site office disappeared quicker than the labourer with the bomb coming in!! :D :D :D :D

It still happens .. generally through stupidity ...  I was helping the Air Loadmaster "board" a bunch of very bored infantry lads in Sierra Leonne, it was down to the lowly "Herc" to get them home .. they were late and not looking forward to the trip. ... one of them wandered off into the bondu to relieve himself.. on the way back he picked up a "ball" and started tossing it about, eventually threw it to/at his Cpl .. who went mental as he realised it was a hand grenade ......

Thence followed 20 minutes of chaos and pandemonium ....a live grenade lying under the fully fuelled wing of an aircraft is not good for the blood pressure !! All ended well however as the thing was so badly corroded it was unable to be armed .. even though it was still a "live" munition. Taken away by some very nice REME lads and a few minutes later a nice "bang" on the far side of the strip.

Wow!! :o :o :o :o :o

I hope he never tours the battle fields of Flanders and Northern France as I have.  Plenty of hand grenades, shells of all types, and bullets to play with there!  I personally picked up some grenades and bullets just to take a risk like my great uncle did, but also to place them in 'safety' on a munitions for collection pile 8-) 8-) 8-) ;)  Wouldn't recomment it anywhere else though ;D ;D ;D

One of the first things to hold up work at the olympic site at Stratford was a WW2 bomb going off. I cant remember if it was a controlled explosion or it just went bang tbh.
