Pure madness...  Before you allow anybody to drive any sort of  HGV on the UK roads they should have  to undergo a competance test.. regardless of where they are from

That's a point :) will foreign drivers be subject to this new CPC that is going to prevent the likes of H21 and Myself keeping our HGV / PSV licences.... >:( >:(

And me ::) ::)

 :-[ Sorry........................... and LD.... :D :D

Further research .. which is still ongoing .. which is why I haven't printed it ... implies ....

That the CPC is ONLY needed if driving "PROFESSIONALLY" .. ie  .. being paid , or "for reward".

You do NOT need the CPC to renew your licence (it would appear)... but you can then only drive if not being rewarded. So folks with their own horses/horse boxes; folks with their own fire engines .. etc etc etc will still be able to drive them, and if you have renewed your licence so can you .. as long as it is for "free". It would also seem that if you are a "volunteer" driver eg. for a charity, you don't neeed the CPC.

It only applies to those who are "driving for reward"  ie .. paid.

As said .. still not 100% on any of that .. but I believe it is fairly near the truth.

I won't be renewing either my LGV or PSV ... just not worth it..... no company will pay for a 60+ to do the CPC  for a part time drivers job .. and theres no way I'm working full time !!!

That's very interesting, thanks E.... :y :y

I will renew next time, in these troubled times, even my Job is not 100% safe, though I would expect to be able to gain agency work instantly, HGV/PSV, in particular, have always been an emergency fall back plan...... :)

That was my intention too .. but without the CPC you can't do agency work , and the CPC takes about 35 hours I believe .. so you either pay for the CPC and possibly never use it ... or you don't have one and can't get work until you take it.....  which way to go ??

The CPC will cost around £300 ... by the time VAT etc are added...

5 days of 7 hours ...

http://www.driverscpc.org/portal/alias__driverscpc/lang__en/tabid__2281/default.aspx

and you have to do it every 5 years ....

My thinking... Been employed by the current employer more than 2 years so would get a redundancy package so use that to fund the CPC if it comes to it :y

Thankfully I've got a few years grace to make the decision ;) ;)

Sorry E, i may have been misleading :-[...agency work would be in my current profession, very high demand for workers, HGV/PSV is as has always been a fall back plan and also part of my retirement plan..... :(

I might make some enquiries on the CPC, I believe my employers may be running some ongoing training, not sure how I would justify getting on the training course though given my role, might have to get creative... :D :D  Need a chat with the Transport Manager, see what she says..... :y

Not much worse than the delivery wagon needing all the road to reverse onto the forcourt of our local Tesco and so just swung across in front of me to use my side of the road. Arrogant tw@!!!
Obviously i can,t comment on your experience there Andy there are good and bad in every walks of life and as you say this driver may well have been arrogant, but in my experience which is over 20yrs of driving all over the UK and Western Europe there is a distinct lack of knowledge in the UK as to how much room a manouvering HGV requires, trouble is nowadays everyone is in such a rush and must get past the slow lorry at any cost,i drive a maximum length and weight artic and have delivered into central Paris and the Portugese countryside which couldn,t be more different from each other but have always been given more consideration when in mainland Europe,i try my best not to cause an inconvenience to other road users, after all i drive a car as well,i know if you listen to some HGV drivers you would think they drove their trucks all the time and didn,t own cars,Happy Motoring  :y

I agree they need more room, (not quite the same I know, but there are times when I need more room to manouver whne I'm towing) and & there are various places where I know they need all the road to pull out & I give them loads of room to do so. But this Rob Wiseman driver wanted to reverse back to the shops on his left so pulled over to his right to give himself room ..... right infront of me driving the opposite direction. No indication, just f*** you I'm bigger than you, so you can stop hard for me!
R Wiseman recieved an email that day ......  >:(
