Any of the informed peeps on here know why I can get some DAB radio stations in the car (on my DAB Radio) but at home on the DAB radio they come up with 'Not available' - despite lots of retuning etc.?

Any one know? :-/

I love DAB as home radio & have splashed out on a DAB/CD/FM & docking station for ipod which lives in the kitchen,(great for cooking & drinking) cost £70 & sounds like a £300 set up. I've no idea on incar DAB. I'd like one but have only seen the highway add ons. What have you got & how much was it?

 If you can pick up stations in the car that you can't at home i can only guess it's because the car's moblie? :-/

It's a Ferguson - are their tuners and aerials no good? Hasn't been a problem til recently!

My Home radio is also in the kitchen - me too!

My Car head unit is JVC. (exact model and cost don't have to hand) the first H/U was a JVC AX11 something which has a screen on the front and was linked to my reversing cam and DVD set up.
I returned it (several times (sigh))as it wouldn't display properly unless you held your finger against it (made driving quite interesting!). :-/ :-/Got swapped three times and I never want to see it or the W****r that did the install ever again.

It's now got a proper DAB bee sting aerial and is working magnificently! 
(If you go for an in car DAB radio, for gawd sake don't be persuaded to use the stupid bits of string on the windscreen jobs. They're a waste of time )
DAB on Wheels(dot) com have lots of info about in car DAB

Decent head units for DAB (so I'm led to believe) are JVC, Clarion and Alpine.
I don't have any experience of the pure highway type radios.
I'm sure there are people on the forum that do - perhaps they'll let you know what they think of them?

DAB's problem is once the signal to noise drops below what the eroor correction can deal with, you get nothing. Analogue radio, you just get a poorer sound.

So, you need better tuners, and better aerials to ensure the signal to noise is always high.


I gave away my Pure because I used to struggle with signal in the evenings. That and the fact there is sod all on DAB that isn't on analogue that I want to listen to...



I think JVC make some real shite now, they seem to be chasing the chav end of the market.

TV gets ramped up during the DSO period.  I think that the idea of a digital radio switchover has, thankfully, started to cool down.

DAB signals are not as good as they could be in the UK, but its not down to the UK TV switchover, the DAB frequencies in use are in the old Band III TV spectrum which are still in use in parts of Ireland, Belgium and France, so untill they get switched over theres no room for improvement.

Believe that mob do there switchover later this year, so in theory things should improve for DAB, assuming the Euro Boys can finally decide what frequencies we are all suppose to be using.

I think DAB is a step backwards in some respects I have one on all day in work and have found that most of the electrical equipment I use in the kitchen totally block the signal. At least the old freqencys were protected by suppression regulations.

We use the Pure Evoke in the kitchen on DAB and also wireless linked to router and Evoke server - all works really well and put one in at my daughter's also and she is very happy with the quality. No interference problems on either.

Have got DAB installed in a couple of cars now, using Blaupunkt. Have found the reception to be better than FM.

reception using DAB in the house is still quite poor, however.
