Sounds bad:

Does not say what kind of Rally it was, must have been a classic or something, as modern Rally cars can be trashed at 100 mph+ and drivers just walk away  :-/

Guessing driver side went into wall, and car had no roll cage  :-/

Yep, full spec modern rally car. If you hit an old church wall flat out (which is apparently what happened) no car can give full protection. Saw the car on the news - front o/s was totally mangled.

he had a partially severed right hand that may end his f1 career, although given the rarity of talented drivers like him, and the amount invested in him, if its humanly possible, he'll race again  :(

I hope he will be ok soon..

but every racer knows that sooner or later this can happen.. if you go full throttle on twisty , muddy roads its inevitable one day you will pick a bad card from the deck.. :-/

I've seen some other pictures which show the armco going in the front of the car... and out of the back of it - exactly like that reconstruction video above.

It seems they were very lucky that one or the other of the occupants wasn't killed outright by the armco going straight through their ribcage!

What was that you were saying about crashing at 100mph and being fine, tunnie? ;)

Crikey, that video caused a tight buttock clench! I can't imagine how the guy felt as it actually happened. I sincerely hope he makes a good recovery & can continue his life with the minimum interruption  :)

Seems he's doing much better now.  Had a 7 hour op the day he crashed, 9 hour on Friday.  And he's having his last bit of surgery today on his elbow.

Hopefully he makes a recovery back to formula 1.  Don't mind if it takes a while, I'll just be glad to have him back.  :)

That was my reaction!  Perhaps it's too mundane?

Hopefully he's on the road to recovery now.
