Bloody computers
« on: 23 May 2007, 15:58:04 »

I have a PDA which is supplied by the company I do work for and they have been having trouble with the machines storing data on the SD cards (dont ask me why I havent got a clue) so I had my PDA storing info on the machine itself and never had any problems it just means that I have to do smaller jobs on a Friday so I can drive back to the office to get it downloaded before 5pm which means less money for me. The office manager has been trying to get me to switch to the SD card for months but I have been resisting because I know they have been having trouble so when I went in last week for the Slough work she insisted that they had ironed all the problems out and I would benefit. Got to Slough on Monday with the PDA using the SD card to store data and it took me 4 hours to do a 2 hour job because the machine kept coming up with errors. Today it finally gave up the ghost and im now back at home. The turd is really going to hit the fan tomorrow when I get into the office and if they dont pay me my expenses they can shove the work.

I feel better for that rant ;)

Your having a great week then Pete ::), Typical they always tell you the problems are sorted, sounds like the length of time it takes e.g., an extra 2 hrs means your contract will last longer no?, that can't be a bad thing if they do pay your expenses, which they should if they have any sense.

Anyway on a serious note are you going to show at the VBOA meet, check the post in meetings?

I kept wondering why my sat nav software (on a PocketPC) stopped successfully saving routes and waypoints. Turns out it saves your position every second to the SD card when you are driving. No evidence of being able to do anything useful with this data, or of a setting to turn this feature off. When it eventually fills up the SD card, if doesn't complain, it just silenty fails to save anything and leaves you wondering if you've lost the plot.  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Where has the art of writing useable software gone?
