reading this with interest....

On the GS forum there is a "First Dibs" rule, where people have to post on the sale thread saying "First Dibs on tank bag" (as well as a PM) - Anyone else who also wants it, posts, "seconds dibs", "3rd dibs" and so on.

That way they have publically declared if they want it, sellers also keep a record of anyone else who wants it.

That way the parts never become 'unavailable'

I quite like the system, maybe worth a go here?  :-/

The other side of the coin - There have been two occasions in the last year when I thought I had agreed to buy a car advertised on here. Didnt haggle on the price, just wanted a look around the car at the earliest opportunity, intending to pay cash. On both occasions recieved PM,s to say the car had been sold to someone else.On the first occassion I had gone to a lot of trouble to arrange a lift to a location around 100 miles away. I got a PM the night before, cancelling the deal.
Its probably the way things are these days, but it isnt the way I do things. If I agree an arrangement with someone, I stick to it. It has cost me money on certain occasions in the past, but to me some things are more important than money.
Although I have had some good bargains from the parts for sale sections on a couple of occassions, I do think that the forum would probably be better off without it overall.
It seems to cause more hassle than its worth for most of those concerned, especially the admins.
Parts etc. can always be bought/sold on fleabay, and tbh a lot of the time they can be bought cheaper than they can from here.
I would like to give credit where its due though. Rob - who started this thread - sold me a door (cheap) the courier wrecked it, so he has given me another door F.O.C. and it is making its way to me this weekend via the OOF spirit. That to me is what the forum is all about.
