I can only echo the comments already made... What a cracking weekend :y :y :y

I'm not going to be long before I'm in bed though as 3 consecutive late nights early mornings  ::) with rather a lot of beer and food have taken their toll :-X ::)

A big thanks to Guffer for his arrangements and to everyone who told me off when I started to get involved in anything that was remotely damaging to my back ::) ::)

An extra special thanks has to go to the kind people who did the few little bits to my car for me :y :y TB, Kevin and Chris... I am very grateful :y :y

Oh... Who's ATF did you stick in Chris? I should have parted with some beer tokens for it but got sidetracked trying to help Jim (as much as I could ::)) as we suddenly realised his car was in lots of pieces on the floor ::) ;D

Had a surprisingly good run back too  :-X :-X ::) ::) After a slight detour to see a mad Irishman I walked into the pub to meet SWMBO at just after 9 :y :y But who left my car set to run on petrol? Didn't notice until I was almost a Guildford >:( :D

Bit of a rush to get everything finished in the end. Hopefully didnt leave Guffer too much to tidy up after us?

Not a problem really .. any car that's done 104000 will have bits that wear out, it is the expertise like yours that tells me when the stuff HAS worn ... I can then do the work ... my problem is not knowing how to check most of these things !!

and that is one of the best parts of a meet ... the help and advice freely given by people who do know  :y :y :y :y

And Paul, we discussed your issue and came to the conclussion you describe with water pump, those bolts are set to very low torque, several of is have done the exact same thing.  ::)  :-X easy done.
May be able to turn those bolts put from the back.

Hi Chris, yes i managed to get the pump off again today and after speaking to James - Twiglet i did as suggested and wound thru the remaining thread of the bolt and they came out - Luckily!

Off to Vauxhalls tomorrow for all new bolts for all the pulleys, some thread lock, another bottle of anti-freeze and some seals.

I can only assume that the knocking could of been an air lock perhaps?

The car REALLY drank a lot of fuel on the way home, it was ridiculous!  What could of the cause been for that to happen?  :-?

Some possibles, cam timing(gulp), multi rams, maf....? Kev checked the cam timing so start with the others. Does it drive ok? Power all there? I guess you cant tell yet? Pedal trick it for codes too.
Kerp an eye on the coolant level, it'll take a while to settle as it self bleeds the air back to the header tank.

I turned the crank by hand earlier so all the TDC markings met and their all spot on, even the tensioner markings line up - I took pictures of the 4 cam pulleys and the tension for you to see, i'll post them up tomorrow.

I've not driven it since i got home last night, i didn't want to tempt fate with that one bolt in the water pump pully!

There's been no fault lights or anything during the drive home last night, i'll do the pedal trick if i get a chance tomorrow.
I've come across the odd water pump that has raised ribs (3 i think) and the original bolts are too long and just catch on the ribs, its worth a look

Many thanks to Matt the host - and especially for sneaking me in at the last minute. It's good to put faces to names at last.

Managed to change a diff, a diff pinion seal and the steering idler that didn't want to come off, together with some other odd jobs, too. I promise to let someone work on my car next time - it never actually got a spanner on it at all on Saturday.

I left at 17.30 or so and drove home. Didn't do badly, was in my bed before midnight 335 miles later.

As it happens, I could have stayed over, the event we were going to yesterday got cancelled at the last minute. Could have done without spending the entire day in the pub, too !

Sorry for the late post, I got absolutely screwed on the journey home, but that couldn't dampen an excellent weekend.

Thanks for Guffers for arranging a great venue and everything else around the weekend. Lazytinker as well, for being the tea boy, and for doing an errand for me on the way. But mostly, thanks to everyone who attended, got stuck in, and made it an enjoyable, productive weekend.

LOL, and I never gave you anything for 6,000 litres of DexIII - it all got a bit of a rush at the end  :-[.  And Kevin Wood's diff oil.  Glad we checked the ATF level now ;D

I'm not entirely sure there was an ATF level until we put some in. :o

.. and to ease Nigel's conscience after pinching my parts  ;), we found my pinion seal no longer appears to be leaking and the level was fine.
