Proper order for bolt/washer/spring washer/nut...
« on: 05 March 2011, 18:30:43 »

Stupid question time  :D but I reckon here is as good a place as any to find an answer to a question I've wondered about often.. well, whenever the instructions for something don't tell me explicitly, really.

If you have a bolt, a plain washer, a spring washer, a nut, and an item to be clamped.. what's the proper order for things?

Should the plain washer go between the head of the bolt and the item, with the spring washer between the nut and item on t'other side, or should the plain washer go between the spring washer and the nut..

(Granted, reading around, it seems spring washers do SFA anyway in most applications, but the destructions say to use them - but fail to mention what to do with the 129387123 plain washers in the bag - so I will)

I figure there are a few time-served mechanics/engineers/etc on here who play with far bigger toys than me and who'll surely know the answer :)

You can ignore this now ;) Shackeng provided the answer to my original aside: http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1299198355/30#30
