Yet another energy saving con
« on: 06 March 2011, 16:03:32 »

Old fashioned lightbulbs work quite fine for me but along came the hype of energy saving bulbs.

So I invested heavily and bought 6 for use in outside wall lights and three spares as no two lights ever seem to be the same shape or light quality. Only had them about a year and one didn't light. Assumed it must be a wiring fault. No it was a failed bulb. Covered by guarantee yes but who keeps the receipts? The others are going to have to last 10 years to pay back. They don't illuminate immediately and the quality of the light is poor power for power.

On top of that technically   you are supposed to not throw the failed energy saving bulbs in the bin but drive to a disposal centre with them! (contain mercury?) How much energy does that consume? >:(

You wanna pop over to the UK and pop into Tesco's where usually they have them at 20p each (subsidised by the energy companies).. The mini spirals are the best for instant lighting and light output imo.

Where possible i have them fitted to every light fitting.

I've stopped using them outside as I need the IR from an incandescent to help the CCTV camera at night.  That said I'm losing filament bulbs at about one a month!!

'They' don't make anything like they used to! >:(

My goodness that is cheap. I'll have to try that on my next trip. Probably find they all get smashed by the baggage handlers. Wouldn't be able to take on as hand luggage - could be used as a weapon!!

Oh sorry, Lizzie. Yes everything is wonderful and the future for my kids is looking rosy. That nice Mr Cameron and his windmills, together with the truly democratic EU, will ensure we all have a happy and prosperous future in England's green and pleasant land.

Happy now?  ;) ;D

Did you know that a member of the labour party has an interest in a company that recycles energy saving lightbulbs?

I've got a stockpile of 100w and 150w normal light bulbs. Ha

60w and 100w here.... :) You can still buy then anyway.... ::) ::)
Almost every bulb in our house is low energy, some are quicker than others, they do seem to be getting better, but most that I have were bought cheap.... :y
