Guy, I frankly do not give a tuppeny toss what you do with your car.

What I do care about, however, are the guidelines that we have in place on OOF.

If you are unhappy about that, thats your choice.

Your initial post on the beastie was edited by me then deleted by another of the admin team as they read more into the post than I did.

its not health and safety or other crapp.  Its what is needed to try and keep the form onb an even keel.

if that does not fit with your agenda, well, such is life.  you have the solution at your fingertips, as you used previously.

Your call....

I did'nt reply to this lastnight so at least have exercised some degree of self control. I'm mortally sorry for not posting in the correct slot & upsetting the forums uniform system. The car is'nt for sale yet anyway, i never said it was!

Do you know what really got me Broocie was that after me saying how hard it was for me to let her go...yes i'm attached to the old girl & thought you were unnecessarily harsh in saying you did'nt give a tuppenny toss what i do with the car & reminding me i know where the off button is & telling me it's my call. I saw that as unsympathetic & challenging. This is'nt the first time you've snapped at someone since your adminship...& i stuck up for you! Now i'm at the end of it!

Whilst your'e a valued & loved member i'm not sure you should be an admin. Such a status takes more than myopically following the rule book & an abrasive manner. I still think well of you, i know you're a decent bloke but you have a cold clinical side that i have a problem with..

    Sorry, Guy.

    Sorry, Guy.
I am equally guilty of snapping at members  :-[ (though not in this case).  In my case, I get a little bit sick of dealing with the crap the Admin Team have to put up with, and sometimes that does roll over into our replies  :-[

I've just read some posts I made this morning, which at the time I thought were valid replies, but on rereading them 10mins ago (as somebody PM'd that I was being a bit harsh), I obviously had my grumpy head on  :-[

I know it shouldn't happen, but when we are doing the same old moderation tasks, answering the same old PMs about why a member cannot post in For Sale, the tedium does creep in, and the fuse shortens. Occasionally the toys come out, as they did with me when I buggered off for 2 weeks in January. For that I apologise, but I suspect I will not be able to change much, as some things will always frustrate me.

I imagine H21 is not that much different, although the wording of his post I would say is the words he'd use face to face, with that little sparkle in his eye ;)

i'm not sure you should be an admin.
To specifically comment on that, I think H21 is the perfect Admin. Possibly years of people handling in a previous job creates somebody with the right judgements on most intrepretations of the defined rules, the ability to be empathetic, yet strong enough to enforce, and be thick skinned enough not to take critisisms as personal attacks. I think he is also very good at getting a point over when enforcing the rules, irrespective of whether or not he agreed or disagreed with that rule.

Hotel21 does tend to end up dealing with the shitiest of the hassles we have on here, most of which most members see absolutely nothing of, thankfully.

The written word lacks body langauage, so important in communication, so a jovial comment can be construed as an insult.

Broocie is a top bloke who has had to deal with all sorts in his career & no doubt he did it well. I love him, have eaten very well at his table & met his lovely family. In person he's great fun & company & i accept he's dealt with OOF issues efficiently...but....

Lastnight he was rude & uncaring...yes you were B even if you did'nt mean to be. I'm forevever apologizing to folk, Jaime just said he does sometimes, i've never heard you say sorry or admit you might be wrong or too strong on occasions but at times you are. Guy.

Do you think that could potentially have been the lack of emotion/expression in the written word?

Hotel21 saw the post as a For Sale ad, as did the moderator who deleted it. Maybe they both read something into it - again, going back to the written word sometimes being surprisingly misleading - and they both followed the Guidelines and dealt with it.

Sorry if that sounds uncaring, but that is the job they were volunteered to do (note, they didn't volunteer ::)). It matters not is the person who's thread you are moderating is a friend, in fact in anything, that makes it more difficult. You have to do the job, detach from friendships for a while, and brace for potential repurcussions  :'(

I can't say what he was thinking at the time, or what he truely meant with his posts, but I can and will vouch for his integrity towards the forum.

What I would ask, however, is that you re-read the initial post that was edited and then review the information therein.   :y

Just re read it as requested. Did'nt mean to suggest the car was for sale as it is'nt yet but i can see how it might have appeared so & how i reacted to it.
I was wrong in saying i don't think you should be an admin as you obviously play a major role just that one or two of your comments were a tad hostile given i was wearing my heart on my sleeve regarding having to let the Beastie go as without MM i can no longer look after her properly. Not an easy decision to make & i was surprised to be snapped at & probably reacted badly. By my admin comment i meant a little understanding & dare i say bedside manner is involved as well as enforcing the rules, although i understand doing so is no walk in the park & way beyond my capabilities/patience!!! :y

To rejoin this thread and to specifically answer Amigo.

I read and moderated the initial thread you posted, the one you say was not a for sale add.  I considered it was an early plug to advise that the car was for sale, complete with you bemoaning the fact that MarkeyMark has moved on from Omega’s (and is indeed, banned from OOF, which you also were unhappy about) and that you were both unwilling or unable to repair the car and so, it had to go.   :'(   As it was not a full sales add, I did not move it and also, did not delete it.  I edited the content so that you could follow my reasoning and also serve as a reminder for others who use the forum, most with substantially less experience of OOF and its foibles than a long standing member such as yourself.  :)

I hope you would agree that my comments here were not ‘harsh’ and indeed, quite the opposite.

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1299958797

Whilst I was reading other posts and PM’s from members who are less than happy about our selling guidelines/restraints, the thread was deleted by a Moderator who read more into the thread than I, considered it suitable for deletion, and did.  I disagreed with this and set about the methods of resurrecting it back into GenDiss.  Due to technical problems, it is not as simple as taking a bit paper out the dustbin and smoothing the creases to make it readable and that frustrated me – and still does, each time I require to move, split or splice threads as it takes a fair old time.  But that’s not your problem or issue.  >:(

Meantime, you posted this thread and it read to me as being similar to threads you have started in the past where you have launched your teddies at something on OOF that has incurred your displeasure, generally on swearing, political correctness or similar.  You are not a newbie and know how the forum operates.  And that also frustrated me as you are, as I said in the thread, long enough of tooth, as it were...….  ::)  It matters not that I too can swear like a trooper, partake in racist/sexist/nationalistic/political humour but what I do face to face and in person is different to how we must conduct OOF.

Rather than again getting involved in the application of cold compresses, soothing oils and hot sweet tea, I took a more up front option.  Sadly, without the smileys….   :o

In hindsight, you correctly took umbrage at that as it was read simply as plain word with no smileys, kisses, tears, hugs or thumbs up to convey the missing humour.  That I missed the smileys, you missed my tongue in cheek intent, and it all went Pete Tong thereafter.

To clarify, I really do not care how you deal with your car.  You got the car at a very good price from me (no matter if you disagree, we all have opinions) but its yours, not mine.  I hope its looked after but, its still a car.

As to me seeing the world in black and white – perhaps I do, probably more than most.  And for that, sadly, I make no apologies.  Its how I am and how my work ethos has developed both as an engineer and latterly as a cop over almost 40 years of earning a crust in the real world.  Its either working or not, its either legal or not or its dead or its not.

I do try to encompass the views and variations of the diverse creature that OOF has developed into but.  And it’s a substantial but that irritates more than a few.

We have guidelines here, not rules.  That said, rules have been defined as for the guidance of the wise and the observance of fools (or something similar).  We are back to the line in the sand scenario where we all need to know where one thing ends and another starts.  If we continue to shift that line to accommodate those of longer standing against those who are fresh out the wrapper, we set ourselves up as cliquey and/or elitist.  And we try to be neither.  Or I certainly do.

Sadly, if that does not sit comfortably with you, such is life, Mon Ami.....   :'(

Either way, I still consider you as a friend and a person I have been most glad to have made the aquaintance of and I look forward to sharing a glass with you at some future time.   :y

Without MM i can't look after her. We can do track rods, wishbones, bodywork & cometics, servicing etc. but that's it. Folk like Pete & Daz are willing & able but the distance makes it prohibitive so i've got to go back to something a little simpler. We'll get this leak sorted somehow, then i'm afraid that's that.

She is a baby though & hope her next owner pampers her as i have. They'll certainly be happy!! 8-)

I'm happy with your response B. You've laid a couple of demons to rest. Despite everything i regard you as a decent sort of chap & accept we all have our little ways about us...i'm riddled with them & appreciate your comment that i've been around long enough to know better than to rock the boat.
Misunderstandings have been resolved so i suggest we shake hands & look forward to a drink in a field sometime.

I'm so glad you are glad Guy!  I think...   :-/   8-)

I did take exception to the admin thing though.  As much as you (and others) perhaps dislike how I go about things on here, I do try to be consistant.

And its perhaps why I do not 'come out to play' as some put it and prefer to sit in admin mode.  If I unleashed the real me online then I think there would be trouble and tears aplenty...   ;D   :y
