Well I can still do it!!
« on: 12 March 2011, 12:06:58 »

Domestic electrical installations that is, that first my LEB electrian uncle Reg taught me at 14 years of age, and continued to do with my ex, studying the regs. and watching / talking to professional electrians to learn modern installation testing.

I have just completed the extension to two ring mains, installing some 7 double sockets, channeling out the runs, with the installation of metal conduit.  All tested and working to design, and very satisfied that I can now power all electrical appliances in my bedroom and lounge without the use of dangerous extensions, along with 3-way adaptors!! :D :D 8-) 8-) 8-)

Thank God from being a young girl I was encouraged not to rely on anyone but myself for electrical installation, plumbing, car mechanics, decorating, cooking, interior design, sewing, kniting (although I haven't got the patience now for the latter two!!) and child care!! :D :D :D 8-) 8-) 8-)

I (we, when he was around :'( :'( :'() saved a fortune!! ;) ;)

Yes! :y :y

I was lucky.  I first tested all the circuits, then the electrians who are testing the electrics in all our flats tested my system in total.  Job done at no expense to me! :D :D :D 8-) 8-)

Excellent Lizzie.  When I was a young lad my mother taught me how to look after myself :) and to prevent to be taken advantage of. :)  I really thank God for her, and if carrying out any job to do it well, as a good tradesman will never be out of a job. :y

I know that well as both my mum and grandmother believed in doing everything they could themselves and always stated "if a job is worth doing it is worth doing well"!
So it was logical for me to learn everything about doing jobs myself in as many fields as possible, and by golly has it paid off given what I have seen so called "professionals" get up to!! :o :o :o ::) ::) ::)

The males in the lives of both of my great grandmother, grandmother, and mother on that side of the family were useless at doing anything!  In fact my father couldn't even bang in a nail straight! ::) ::) :D :D :D

Did they give you the certificate to file away somewhere?

I understand that they are supposed to send them to the local council planning dept - but am not sure if that's 100% or not.

Well done.

I had a pal of mine around a week or so back. He is fully qualified and converted the house to use a single phase of the three phase supply as it was using all of them!

Defo not a job to get wrong ............

Well as said, I did all the testing myself, with my work conforming to the 17th Edition wiring regulations, Part P, but yes as luck would have it to make it all "legal" under modern regs. MALE electrians yesterday did a full testing of all my electrical system as part of the works they are doing for my landlords and it all passed with flying colours :D :D :D ;)

Result, as yes as officially an "amateur" electrician, albeit a trained and educated one, I needed for legal reasons to be covered by the professional testing.  A confirmation of the test date has now been put on my consumer box, with no doubt the test certificate going to my landlords.

Proper job!! :D :D :y :y

To anyone not confident, experienced and trained to carry out such work I recommend you do not! Safety must come first :) :)
