Approaching 160 odd down that straight is, in an abnormal way,... normal, if you see what I mean. (

)
Wind it on in a purely progressive manner, no agression, holding station, no desire to compete with others and you will certainly top 150 without issue(old international circuit, I think we're talking the same section) as you will simply be riding to the conditions, to go slower would be unwise depending on the group your in.
It's quick, and you know it, but by no means does it feal like 160 on the road, so by those comparisons it's un fair to compare the two disciplins.
But take your "normal 160" mentality, add in a massive development budget, massive talent, massive balls, and a competitive spirit bordering on total paranoia and I guess the level becomes more clear. Then after that there's Pedrossa, who was also riding very well,Rossi, Spies, Lorenzo et al. Then there's Stoner, better? In terms of results, not yet. In terms of talent, now your asking the real question.
Anyone seen the film Tin Cup(think it's called)?
Last hole to win the tournament. All he has to do is lay up, then chip on to the green for a two put. No problem for him.... But no, the wind changes, and he thinks there's a chance he can get on the green in one, over water. No fun in laying up, where's the challenge in that? That's Casey it seems to me, there's nothing else, but him and the bike, or "the here and now" i think he called it in the film Tin Cup. What can I do right here right now? And let's go for it.
There every chance he'll win nout, but I don't want to see a bike rider "lay up" any more than the next guy. Although I would like to see him get the results he deserves... Which is a worry it has to be said.

Looking forward to this season, more than previous years. Come on Casey.
