TUC anti public spending cut march
« on: 26 March 2011, 09:07:52 »

another valuable opportunity to determine whether we live in a free, liberal democracy where governments are relaxed about people voicing dissent, or a police state where being on a march automatically makes you a criminal as seems to the case in recent events.

the world, the UN and the middle east will be watching with baited breath - lets not give them an excuse to impose a no-fly zone guys OK?  ;)

Nickbat, Albs - what time are you getting there? and don't wear your purple loon pants and tie-dyed t-shirt - wouldnt want to clash  :y

Only Banjax could attempt to equate the problems in the Middle East with a leftie demo in London.

Provided the demonstrators don't start hurling fire extinguishers off buildings or smashing windows, they are free to voice their dissent.

I believe that, due to the cuts in public transport, only 87 people can make it.

It's not just a gaggle of Communists/Trotskyites/Bolsheviks/Marxist-Leninists who turn up  Nick. A far more diverse  section of society attend than you perhaps think... :P :P

I might enjoy such a gathering myself..... ;)

You are right Opti :y :y

What worries me though, as in the past, it is all too easy to demonstrate your democratic rights to protest, but very hard to come up with alternative answers.  That will be the case with this protest.

Even Ed Milliband has had to accept publically yet again that a Labour government would had to have implemented cuts, but just not as the Coalition are.........................!!! ::) ::) ::) ::)

Still if people want to get some fresh air and feel like they have voiced their opinion, I am all for it!  I just will not be joining them! :D :D ;)

Why do people seem to think the state should provide? Socialism appears to be one half of the country working to pay for the other half who sit in their paid for home. Bring on the cuts.

Just read the BBC report and it seems to me to come down to this:

"We don't like the cuts"

"What's your alternative, then?"

"Er...er...we don't know."

 ;) ;D

BBC spin on their website:

Commander Bob Broadhurst:
"Unfortunately we have had a group of approximately 500 criminals committing some disorder including throwing paint at Topshop in Oxford Street and at the police, and scaring the public who are trying to shop."

The Beeboid Tom Symonds' spin:

"A very small group of protesters, maybe three to four hundred people, stopped outside Topshop."

Wow, that is a very small group. Nothing to see, move on please. ::) ::)

300 to 400 protestors out of 250000 is a small group - i'll go right on and assume they're not all violent troublemakers.

and I'll assume you take the other view that they all are  :y

easy this  ;)

It's not a question of proportion. 300-400 protesters outside one shop is a large group. Whether there are thousands, or indeed, millions of other people elsewhere is entirely irrelevant. ::) ::) ::)
