Why is everyone so surprised when trouble, and rioting, flares up at any anti-government rally?  It should never be a surprise in our democracy!

The Anarchists will always be there; organised, violent and generally detirmined to bring authority down.

Note this blog site for Anarchists and what is stated, or rather what is between the lines!

I will bet a pound to a penny that the vast majority of people taking part in the protest were public sector employees.
Those of us in the private sector who pay over half of our income in taxation of one form or another and who have had our pension pots plundered in order to pay for this morbidly obese public sector , would have no reason to join in.
Public spending has not been cut - last months borrowing to fund it was an all time high - it is however planned to cut the rate at which its accellerating - nowhere near enough imo.
Many people have developed a great sense of entitlement regarding public money and unfortunately they are going to have to learn some hard lessons.
Can someone please explain to me why the police appear to be taking a soft line with the thugs who are causing wanton destruction in west London at the moment ?
They should be bombarding them with tear gas and water cannon - not standing round the corner watching them smashing up premises.

...and the vast majority of those public sector workers earn less than £15k per annum. Their pensions average £5k per annum. Hardly what I would call "morbidly obese".  Incidentally they also pay taxes just like the rest of us.  I would imagine the thugs causing the destruction have never worked a day in their meagre little lives.

Average public sector pay is £23,660 (2009-2010)

Nick I am SURE you have the intelligence to know that the average isn't what the majority get.  Put yourself in a room with Beckham and tell me you both earn that average.

HC- My point is that there are simply far too many people employed in the public sector. I dont mean that they are all earning "morbidly obese" salaries,  but that the sector as a whole is morbidly obese.
It has to change, theres no way round that imo. I wish that the jobs that go are the non jobs, like the army of diversity co-ordinator types and the ones who impose/enforce positive discrimination etc on us. But like you I expect that wont be the case, and to me that is utterly criminal.
We need the public sector and we always will, but the damage that Nu Liebore did to it  and therefore the country must be undone. :y

Albs, in that case, I agree with you 100%. It would also appear that it's these non-jobs who artificially inflate that "average"!

Apparently our county council has appointed some guy to "oversee cost cutting" ... at a cost of £800 A DAY !

Sure, HC, but I am equally sure that it is impossible to say that the majority on the march today earn less than £15k. I read one interview with a university professor (or similar) and I'll bet £15k that she is on much more than £15k.  ;) ;D

A friend of mine  (who is quite left wing and thought Brown was wonderful ) has spent most of his life working in the public sector, in town planning etc. We have many an exchange of views on political matters, but he admitted to me recently that he has never worked in a council dept. which couldnt lose 20% of its workforce and no-one would notice any difference to the service being provided. ;)

Maybe the people on the march are just trying to protect the people who are on £15K? No. Surely no-one could be that bothered.
