Isle of Man TT 2012
« on: 27 March 2011, 18:49:48 »

We (being a few of us) are going to be booking up for The Isle of Man for next year. We were hoping to go this year but my mate has been very ill in hospital. He is out now but still not allowed yet to drive or ride until he passes some tests, the reason we are booking for next year.

Anyway I know it is hard for any of us to organise a get together for anything but if anyone is seriously interested in going let me know.  :y

Ah fond memories. And some very disturbing ones.

Ticked off my bucket list though, have fun.   :y

I shall be going this year, taking the BMW  :)

Really must book the ferry!

If father T still has his government project over there (has done for past decade or so!) I will be going in 2012 as well as its a good week!

I tend to spend a day riding up, usually going through Wales, might take different route this year.

However I go for the Practice week, not race week as FatherT usually does not work then.

Great weather last year, this photo is just after the 1-way mountain road section:

my hat goes off to the riders, average roads, standard in every way. Pot holes, man hole covers, sections where its been dug up.....

They blast through there at 180mph, and the average, thats average speed over the 37 mile course can be over 130mph  :o

The main challenge is probably in learning a course thats over 37 miles long imo. The top speeds are higher at the North West 200, and the Ulster Grand Prix has an higher average lap speed - and probably rougher roads in parts, but the courses arent as long as the IOM .
They also race against each other on the road on the Irish circuits rather than against the clock, so they all set off together from the start, which can get interesting. ;)

The NW 200 is a real test for both rider and machine; 8-)

Yep, they are getting up to over 200mph in parts, although when I were a lad and used to go the course was (iirc) over 14 miles long, its nowhere near that now, but great racing all the same Z. :y
