Drugs-- Discuss

OKeh, Proposals are in hand to let drug dealers off prison sentences if they are "Minor Players"

Let's look at the misery, gangsters, prostitution, terrorism, black gun crime, and burglary etc that these chemicals plague society with.

What is the answer?

In a social gathering this subject came up , and unlike the BBC's Question Time we came from diffferent backgrounds with no political bias.

The overwhelming opinion was that the only way to prevent the above, and benefit from a solution to the problem was to make any drug available via a doctors presciption at a chemist's that a person wanted.

The positives are that the criminallity is removed, no dealers, no pimps, no gangs, and no support for terrorism. Importantly the  cost of policing this major contibutor to cime is removed. The fascination for the illegality of a high is removed...... NO FUN?

The tax raised as in the case of Tabacco, and Alcohol would benfit the treasury. Regulated I don't see a downside.
If you wanna get high, get high,. :y :y :y

we were discussing this on oof the other day http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1301396735

although we were just talking about heroin, but yeah, legalise all drugs and drug related crime (ie most crime) would peter out, drugs themselves could be properly regulated and drug dealers would foxtrot oscar as they'd never be able to compete with a cheaper, safer product - seems almost too simple to believe, but it works, trouble is no main party politician would ever advocate it (the lib dems used to with cannabis but that was back when they didn't have a chance of power.......bit like the next election) they would get shouted down by the usual gang of idiots in the tabloids, but have a calm, reasonable, intelligent debate with calm, reasonable, intelligent people and you'll almost certainly come to this conclusion.....pity we're guided by rash, cowardly, idiots  ;D

Having been partially flamed for my views on the police in the other thread, I will risk everyones wrath aagian.

How about legalising all drugs and supplying them for free from a little booth by the side of the road. Let the youngsters see the state the druggies arrive in to collect there fix and openly say it is legal for you to become like that. It may just scare a few off.

Also taking away the illegality of something often removes the mistery surrounding it and less people would be attracted to it.

Why do it if everyone young and old can do it ?

Hopefully it will reduce drug use by a large margin.

It would also put drug dealers out of business overnight.

Finally you will never cure it completly, there will always be someone willing to do it regardless.

There you go everyone, timne to moan at me again.

And my last knock at the police, why do they spend lots of money fighting the drugs when they know the courts won't back them ? may aswell of not bothered, and gone out and fined some mnore motorists.

Oh and I have clean driving licence and have not received any fines personally.

i agree whole heartedly..imagine the wholesale price the uk government would be able to secure, meaning lots of revenue ,which could be reinvested into treatment centres, help groups etc..

The crime would still be there for users to pay for it, unless I am expected to stump up for it? Like break I will, unless people stump up for my drinking habit.

Simple solution, kill of demand by killing off the users. The island is overpopulated anyway, and we can ill afford the expenses around the heavy users. Each user only costs a 25p bullet, and a couple of quid in paperwork, once the process is streamlined.

go the way of amsterdam and have cafes like they do... I know its its not pc but at least there would be some were to go and be safe doing your choice of drugs, and help if needed, drug crime would go down, drug use would go up bit but would be more acceptable, if all countries were of the same mind criminal etc would have no money... its just an idea.....

theres a massive precedent - prohibition in the states was a complete disaster, people still drank (and it was mostly cheap booze mixed with all sorts) but criminal gangs took all the money.

we have a prohibition on drugs so why on earth would it work? criminal gangs must kiss the sky everyday thanking the government for making drugs illegal - they're literally making out like bandits ;D

Aside from other issues BJ there's nothing to suggest that criminals would cease their interest in supplying drugs as there would surely be money in supplying the products at a lower cost and at locations more convenient to those available in the newly legal outlets.

The same thing happens at the moment as there seems to be no shortage of tobacco and alcohol available - away from the normal commercial outlets - mostly provided as a result of criminal behaviour.

Plus the criminals deprived of their drug income would move onto another lucrative area. They have still got to make their money .

where would we find the money to build and run all the new mental health centres needed to treat those cannabis users who have had their brains fried. There are enough problems surrounding its use now, but if it was legalised/normalised/ available on rhe NHS.........It is a very highly dangerous drug, with a soft cuddly image.
