The Daily Expail? Express/Mail merger
« on: 04 April 2011, 06:09:39 »

http://www.cityam.com/news-and-analysis/richard-desmond-mulls-mail-merger

Daily Mail and Daily Express could merge into one title....imagine that......what would Princess Di make of the illegal immigrants? lets go to our senior Royal medium  ;D

I wouldn't have thought the Daily Mail's readership would enjoy getting into bed with "Dirty" Desmond the famous pornographer tho  :o

but hey - any port in a storm, right?  ;)

I wonder what the new title would be - The Daily ME?

Insofar as the apparent sanctuary offered by 'any port in a storm', I found to my cost on one occasion many years ago - after a fairy stormy session - that the particular 'port' that hove into view, and so inviting at the time, took on an entirely hue in the cold realisation of the calm which inevitably followed.

I would therefore urge caution when seeking ‘it’ out without thinking carefully about the potential aftermath.

If they merge, does that mean the resulting publication will be twice as right wing? and will they publish a double amount of horse manure?  ::) ::) ::)

Red wine - great in moderation but a real swine in excess - was responsible for allowing the little people to carry me off into bizzaro world. ;D ;D ;D

I can quite believe such a merger is being discussed.

The overall circulation of these two papers together is just 3 million, which is viable, but their individual circulations are not.

Over the decades I was in the newsagency trade I saw papers come and go, with the most amazing change being the 4.5 million circulation of the Daily Mirror decline when the new "Sun" came along in the 1970s and become the new highest selling paper.  Now even that paper's circulation has shrunk to just over 3 million, with the Daily Mirror hovering around 3 million.

With the internet news sites, the advancement of television news networks, and a general decline in the newspaper buying generation, all newspapers are losing circulation and some will go below the levels they need to commercially survive.

The D.Express and D.Mail I think may well have hit that point. ;) ;)
