I'd value your opinion.
« on: 01 April 2011, 22:44:31 »

The Beastie needs a head gasket. Has'nt been cooked, just a leak, no damage done. I've had two offers to fit a new gasket but it's proving difficult do arrange a time. I've also had an offer of £300 for breaking. I paid more than that for the wheels (original VX MV6 rims mint & not buckled) Recaro leather, Bose, carbon effect moulded steering wheel, nearly new budget tyres, rear privacy screen (not fitted) full VX clutch, cambelt & waterpump all done, Full handbrake cable front back & both sides, c/c, detatchable towbar with working leccies, battery, £340 ss decat exhaust etc etc. I'll be lucky to see a quarter of what i've spent on this car to keep her running & as pretty as she is. If i paid to fix the HG that'd be at least £200 & i'd be lucky if she sold for £1000.
I'm now thinking about filling her full of K seal & putting her on Swapz. MOT feb 12 tax Aug 11.

This is'nt a for sale post, if any admins think it is then by all means do what you have to & i won't bitch about it, promise, i've just had enough throwing good money after bad although i can't see what else could go wrong now!

Either way i've had enough. I love Migs but they cost a fortune. All i want to know is in my situation what would you do? :'(

IMHO, I'd fix the HG now.

After spending all that time and money on her so far, you've covered most bases. You KNOW the car, if you get another car, you have no idea what your getting and could end up spending even more!

Hope that helps!  :y

ALL cars cost a fortune. SMBO's Corsa racked up a bill for nigh on £800 recently! You are guilty of equating repair/maintenance bills with car value. There is no logic in that when you think about it.

Let's suppose you had an 06-registered Beemer. If you had the same problems as you describe, the cost of the repairs would be far higher. Presumably, if you had the work done you would then not sell it, since all would be fine. But you would be quids out of pocket.

But you have a Miggy. If you get it repaired, it would cost you less than the Beemer and then you would presumably not sell it since all would be fine.

Equate the two and get the Miggy repaired! It's resale value is not really pertinent.

At ethe end of the day, if the Miggy was running fine, would you keep it?

That's the question.  ;)

We all get attached to our cars, hearts ruling heads. I would cut my losses get rid, when cars start going wrong they never seem to stop.
I hope I don't upset you my friend.

If i wanted to keep her yes i'd pay out to do both gaskets but as i said i've had enough & want rid. Spent a fortune already, enough is enough, the Beastie bank is SHUT! Time for a change.

So if you wanted rid what would you do?

Stick it on eBay, list the faults, and get whatever it goes for, then move on to the next moneypit..
