Not happy - Dented Miggy
« on: 01 April 2011, 20:18:16 »

Just on my way to pick the little one up from school, slowed down while car in front turned right and BANG! The person behind me didn't pay enough attention and used my car as a brake  >:( Impact was I guess only about 15 MPH but it's wrecked the bumper and I can't get the boot to stay shut. Damage doesn't look bad but the Miggy isn't worth that much now so fear it may get written off.  :'(

The good (and most important) news is apart from a slight bit of whiplash on my part everyone's OK. Their insurance has already phoned and accepted liability so shouldn't take to long to get sorted.

Oh what a Bugger!, I really feel for you Rich  >:(
This my frequent nightmare, as the slightest of bumps these days seem to result in a 'writeoff'  :'(

Which is exactly what happened to SWMBO a couple years ago when her Astra was written off.

As tempting as it is. Do I really want to be part of the culture that's increasing everyone's insurance premiums ?

I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure they have set amounts of compensation for certain injuries.

I think Whiplash is £1500.

You need to make sure that you have reported your injuries so it's on an official record though...local G.P etc..

It's up to you mate, each to their own and all that, but I would if it was me  :y

Just a quick update.

Unfortunately the insurance company have decided it's a total loss so my pride and joy will not be coming home again.  :'(
Got 4 days until the loan car goes back so going to find something cheap and cheerful to get me through the next couple of months then look for a proper car :y

Buy it back and fix it, dependant on how handy you are and how much help you can get to do the work if your not, better the devil you know :y

Never let them take the car away for assessment. Ever. (unless of course you've parked it under an artic and the fire brigade have chopped the roof off.)

Buy it back, buy a new bumper and crash bar from a breaker, might even get one the same colour, boot slam panel should push/pull out ok as long as its not creased, and there is adjustment on both the latch and the striker.

Would have thought an afternoon and £200 max would sort it. If you can't/are unable to fix it, bring it down here and I'll happily sort it. :y

p.s. as long as there's no electickery involved. Not having much luck with wiring at the mo. ::)

I was offered a by back off the insurance company. They told me it would be a 'Cat C' so I'm guessing it's done damage to the boot floor which would explain why the boot wouldn't shut and puts me out of my comfort zone as far as accident repairs go.

Weighing up what it was worth, the price of fuel, the jobs that I knew I'd got to do on it (inc cost of parts) and the fact signs of rust were starting to appear I've decided to cut my losses and take the second offer they made me (Turned the first one down as everyone should).

Also had a chat with the insurance about personal injury. To be honest I felt like they were trying to sell me the idea of putting a claim in so I gave in and have put the wheels in motion.

I believe that "cat C" is uneconomical to repair against the car's value
