Imo it was a PR stunt which was setup to portray him as a common man who is tightening his belt like everyone else.
A piece of spin that Alistair Cambell would hevebeen proud of.
Having said that,it is still a lot better than Bliar and Cherie Antoinette flying around the world in private jets laid on by their rich (and mostly crooked) friends, who then had paid for the right to have access to law makers and power brokers in order to ensure that they always got what they wanted. Coming from a party which boasts of its working class credentials, and a PM,s wife who says she is a working class scouser - and says it with a straight face,I always found that particularily stomach churning.
