F82 Twin Mustang?

It was definitely the P38 I was thinking of - though the F82 is particularly pretty, too.

The story goes that when Goering saw a P51 escorting B17's over Berlin he said, "For us zee var iss over", or words to that effect.

.........I never saw any Classic Warbirds kept at Headcorn - too easy to nick from there, I'd have thought!

That sort of plane used to fly over and occasionally stop there for a while. I've certainly seen an earlier version in drab green there(the one before the tear drop canopy 51-C? 51-B?)

Gary Numan and his Harvard 'squadron' certainly used to  fly a lot from/where based there. We used to have to stand down from Jumping while they did their practice formations (still happens apparently).

Always lovely to listen to as they went thundering overhead! :y

Big Beautiful Doll is based at Woodchurch which was a temporary USAAF airfield (field being the operative word!) and is now a private airfield now owned I believe by the owner of the P51. I installed Broadband for his best mate who lives down the road, he was telling me when he went for a flight in the back seat (it's been converted into a two seater by taking out one of the fuel tanks!) which he said was "unforgetable!!"

He flies his P51 at the Headcorn Combined Ops military show in August and gives a smashing display. Just found this link,

And here's a link for the Combined Ops show with one of our radio controlled tanks in the first pic  :)
