2.5 v's 3.0
« on: 29 May 2007, 17:31:37 »

Hi all, I am at a bit of a loss as to wether to get a 2.5 or a 3.0 Omega estate. I want a manual. The 3.0 seem a little thin on the ground compared to the 2.5's. Looking at the performance figures and the consumption also insurance, there doesn't seem to be much in it. I need the car as an every day car. What do you all think i should go for?
I have got my eye on a facelift 2.5 CDX estate with 86k for £2450 but needs cambelt, tensioners and waterpump plus a service, so i was thinking of offering about £2k, what do you think? Or shall i hold out for a 3.0?
Thanks

Darryl

Well if you can find a manual 3.0 MV6 estate, then it would certainly be my choice! :)

Remember though, facelift only had 3.0/3.2  (:-*) manuals for plod, not retail.

Very noticeable power difference between the 2.5 & the 3.0 when you drive both
(ignore the figures, in the real world the 3.0 has a LOT more power!).
However the 2.5 is more economical, if that is a concern.

:-/Loving my 2.5 which is fairly quick but how much difference is there regarding fuel, ins, power (I'm a 3.0 virgin) & should i ever change i'd prefer manual.
Fancy a pre facelift MV6 but still want leather etc. which may be hard to find & pricey.
            Any ideas please? [smiley=dankk2.gif]

Fuel: 3.0 uses more. ;)
The manual MV6 averages 26mpg currently (mixed driving), but will give 34mpg on a run.

Manaul 2.5 should give a few more mpg.

Insuance. 3.0 is 1 group higher at 16.

Power: 3.0 has 207bhp & 199lb/ft torque as standard. 2.5 has 168 bhp & 166 lb/ft of torque (I think).

The figures don't really tell it though.

Manual MV6's with leather can be found, but are very rare....

Cheers. Not changing for a while yet, too much love & £££ invested in this one.
I've learned ( on here ) about Mv6 sport seats hence rarity in leather, but if you could find a good low miler....drool.... :P
