i worked with someone who "ran" the London marathon a few years back, she came round asking for the sponsor money after, i asked what her time was she said "just over 7hours"

"what did you do? stop for lunch and see a movie?"

she wasnt too happy  ;D

did it in 2009 for a construction industry charity. I say "did it" because saying "ran it" would be an exaggeration - took me 4h40m.

I was told beforehand that there was a great camaraderie amongst the runners that would help you along. This was not what I found. Many seemed failrly grumpy. And it was evident that a lot of the "8-9 minute mile" group I was in had exaggerated their speed - I spent a lot of energy trying to get past and keep my pace (ha ha!) up.

I hadn't trained for miles 22+ so was not prepared for the loss of energy + slowed right down at the end. I must have crunched like a sugar cube for days afterwards as I drank so much lucozade on the way round.

Would like to do it again - but you need to put the long miles in through the winter & that takes a lot of time out of your weekends.

Any way - good luck to all forum members who are taking part this year.

I was supposed to be doing a half Ironman this year but due to the recent diagnosis it may have to wait a bit before I can give it a go.

End goal is the Hawaii Ironman ad the coveted tatoo :y

Done a couple of half marathons to raise money for the charity that I work for, a couple of years ago, and  at my age, (almost 60) you would think I would know better!!
Half marathon is about as much as I would tackle, was knackered for days after each one.. ;D

Have nothing but admiration for those who do it in some sort of heavy costume, etc, and STILL manage a good time to the finish.  :-[

Good luck to anyone doing it this year.. :y

Sadly I can't run up the stairs, without being out of breath :( and a strong wind outside can literally 'take my breath away'.... :'( :'( :'(
