There are always people worse off than ourselves, even if it doesn't feel like it I understand this comment is an encouraging comment. I don't purport to know the answer but from my own experiences, what I understand is that whatever someones going through is unique to them and when it is the first experience of this it can be very hurtfull, disheartening and indeed very very troubling and therefore can be very hard to handle mentally, as so many thoughts will be on your mind consistantly.
As its been said on here, it can knock you for six resulting in you not knowing how to handle it. Physical injuries/traumas etc always take time to heal but the associated psychologcal aspect could possibly take longer, injury dependent.
So i suppose what I am saying Phil, is that the physical (surgery) side is inevitable and just as there are those who will be there to help so there will be those who can help you in overcoming the psychological aspect. but I'm sure there is so therefore as already said by a member, check with nurse practioner/or google.
You will come through the op fine and look forward to doing what makes you happy.
